man i vividly remember watching that game with a box of giordanos and several empty bud lights laying around at my friend's apartment by northwestern

Empty bud light is better than actual bud light so that's smart

Yeah, you can do a lot worse than Bub Light.

It's great until you realize he'd use the same phrase when defending Trump against his "hyper critics".

You beat me to it. 1000 hearts.

I am loathe to bring politics into a discussion about King Javy but you could also say that Maddon is making an anti-Trump point because who is more critical of others than Mr. Projection (Trump) himself? (and yeah I know Joe has said it isn't good to not show respect to the presidency, etc.)

We were all so dumb and innocent back then.

i really think javy is gonna be an all star this year

I don't see any reason why he shouldn't run away with the 2B vote. Murphy isn't going to play enough to get the attention, and Baez was second to him last year without a lot of other competition that I can see. I guess if Asdrubal Cabrera and the Mets both stay hot, that would be a big enough market to challenge, but that's about it.

Who is the Cubs' second-best player?

Right now he looks like he's going to end up winning the MVP.

i remember feeling like i was on a one man crusade in his defense in the 2014-15 offseason but i'm sure i wasn't the only one on his side

I've never been on board with trading him, but, admittedly, others were a lot higher on him than I was.

I don't remember being anti-Javy. I remember arguing strenuously against sneaky about it, actually.

Hand up I’ve never been a big fan of everyday Javy, never wanted him gone. But never bought him more than a platoon/defense guy. I’d be glad to be wrong.

I was vehemently against trading Javy because I always felt that we'd never get enough in return to offset the upside + fun factor (I've wanted Cards fans to hate him ever since he screamed "I can do whatever the horsefeathers I want" at the Angels rookie ball team back in the day). I especially felt queasy whenever the talk turned to trading him for a stupid horsefeathering pitcher or some horsefeathers like that. I've always been & always will be a Javy homer.

Yeah, all trade talk regarding Javy (and frankly, all the young bats) always seemed like nonsense to me. It never made sense to trade him for some stupid pitcher.

I've been a huge fan since he started to make changes in 2015. And I've been willing to look past all his warts. But, I never really expected a huge breakout. And that was OK, because he was perfectly competent already, and there was some hidden value with his tagging ability and whatnot, playing with a bunch of other guys who could get on base in his stead.

I wanted him gone plenty of times during his long, long stretches of being absolute ass, and yet I also thoroughly enjoy when he does awesome things, so I don't give a horsefeathers who was right or not about him.
Posted
Yeah, I'm not even claiming to be "right" about him. I always acknowledged my irrationality when it came to Javy. Besides, he could still, you know... He's still a volatile guy, and it'll take more than a couple awesome weeks to trust that he's settled into some nice equilibrium. Anyway, my attitude was always I wanted him to either make it or bust with the Cubs.

My feelings for never really liking him were mostly based in seeing the potential if he just stopped being so stupid at the plate with the hacking. Like the dude has crazy raw talent and it was so frustrating to see he just needed stop being such an idiot flailing away at the plate on pitches that weren't even close. I hope he's turning, or turned, the corner on that. All this time maybe Javy just needed some Chili.

Like looking back at former Cubs prospects of lore a guy like Junior Lake you could just see like yeah this guy hacks but maybe he'll be okay but can't hope for much more but watching Javy you knew something is and was there if he just "seemed" to tone things down.

I know I've been pro-Javy on everything. I don't remember any long debates on his defense. I DO remember you replaced him in your signature last year with Happ, and cited Javy defenders as having turned you against him.
