Get all your errors out of the way, and then don't commit any more for the rest of the season.

Even though I'm philosophically committed to abolishing the error as a baseball stat

And do what? Call everything a hit?

Terrible idea.

Yeah if everything were a hit what would Aramis Fan Fan know what to overreact to?

I'm gonna keep updating this until its not a trend anymore or until people get too annoyed at me.

Cubs 2-3-4 hitters are 3-45 with 3 singles combined on this homestand (record 3-0, maybe soon 3-1)

Time to show me up Heyward

I mean, he is going to hit like .275 with 12 homers and a .350 OPB. You are going to be incredibly frustrated by him if you concentrate so much on his offense.

Still, I'd rather see Rizzo and Bryant get more plate appearances than Heyward. I am not sure I'm a fan of the lineup order.

I keep hearing people say this but I really have no idea what the benefits of doing away with errors would be.

Well it was averaging over 7 runs a game coming into today and you know that Joe will tweak it a million times this year because that's what he does so nothing to worry about.

Which in a way is good. Because if we are winning now, just imagine when they combine to go 20-45. We will win like more.

But was wondering...I've watched every game so far and have been so mesmerized by the walks to not notice if any other guy but Dex has really actually hit much.

So you agree with him? What would it accomplish other than inflating batting averages (inconsequentially) and decreasing the amount of no-hitters thrown?

Through 8 innings, despite getting almost nothing going offensively and a defense disaster day, Cub pitchers have thrown 4 more pitches than Rocky pitchers.

Plus entering today Heyward was still holding a strong OBP, setting the table for Riz and Bryant.

well that was a quality stomping. Let's return the favor tomorrow and Sunday

The Rockies need to pay for their transgressions. We need to put up, like, 30 runs over these next two.

There is no benefit to having them as currently implemented. The difference between a poorly hit ball that drops for a hit or a poorly hit ball that a fielder trips and doesn't get to or a poorly hit ball that the fielder muffs is no difference at all.

Friday games 0-2, rest of the week 8-0

We sucked on Fridays last year too. Didn't we go like 2 months after the Polanco hilarity without winning one?

I don't know how to bump stuff from the archives but remembered this thread from last year's playoffs and found it kind of ironic and funny that we are currently 8-2.

Yeah thats my issue with it, whats the difference between a blooper that squeezes in vs. a well struck grounder that a fielder plays off his mitt? The whole idea of the error introduces this strange moral element about whether the hitter "deserves" to be on base or whether the fielder "should" have gotten it.

It totally warps how we think about defense too. Its just an archaic relic and we shouldn't have them, but I don't expect we'll ever get rid of them anytime soon.

a well struck ball off a mitt is often credited as a hit

the strikezone is in the same spirit of arbitrariness, but at least that has potential technological solution that will be implemented before 2030.
