Pretty nice sports day. I was going to be bummed if the magnificent Cubs game buzz I had going on got tainted by losing to the Blues.

Just win game 6 at home and the Blues sphincters will pucker up for game 7.

That was my immediate thought. Most of these guys haven't been out of the first round plus the rookies. Win a home game and all the pressure is on them.

I think we've seen the last of Rundblad. It will be interesting to see which NHL team thinks that they will be able to make something out of him. I'm taking Edmonton in that pool.

Shaw has a chance to redeem himself. As his Hawks career draws to a close, it's nice for him to leave a hockey related legacy. Hopefully his winds up differently than Campoli or Leddy.

Is Fleischman dead? If not, how is Manshitter a better option? If you're looking for a guy with size that won't ever use it and just chases around not really sure what to do they could have just recalled Bickell.

I'm surprised you say that. He has done some dumb stuff and could be seen as more of a goon/nuisance than a hockey player at times, but he's also contributed some memorable hockey moments as well. Two off the top of my head were scoring 2 goals in game 6 against the Ducks while the Hawks were facing elimination, and the GWG (aka "I love shin pads") in Game 1 against Boston.

I find it hilarious that Elliot thinks that every goal the Hawks score is a result of goalie interference. We may be getting into his head.

I meant the very last thing he does before leaving town when they trade him this off season. Getting to play another game will likely erase any long term memory of why he got suspended.

Still, the Blues, as they did after losing Game 2 at home, remained upbeat and confident.

“It’s going to be fun to win it in Chicago,” defenseman Alex Pietrangelo said.

I feel like only teams that haven't been known as choke artists and have actually won something can say something that cocky.

Pat is right, and Milbury is as an idiot as usual. The NHL wants to grow the game, then don't have 8:42pm starts on weeknights in local areas.

It happens in the NBA too. The Warriors-Rockets game was at 8:30 last night, even though Houston's in the central time zone. It just comes with being in the Western Conference -- I don't think it's that big of a deal.

As much as I'd like to rag on the NHL for being stupid about something, I don't think they are in this case. Maybe the Hawks should petition to move to the East if they don't like the late start times?

Houston is in the central, but Golden State is in the pacific. It makes more sense than a stl/chi game, two central teams, kicking off even later than that basketball game. Plus the NHL is in more need of growing itself.

I just want all teams that chant Crawford to lose miserably because they chant Crawford at hockey games. And then I want the Blackhawks to announce that they didn't plan on winning until the opposing team fans started chanting Crawford. "That is when we mustered the inspiration to beat the other team into submission."

I'm guessing you don't live in the EST. Nobody out here is watching a game that starts at 9:40 EST unless they are a fan of that team. It's one thing for Kings/ Sha arks to be on late since they're both California teams. With the number of playoff games that can potentially go into OT it makes no sense to try to wait out the final of the east coast game before starting one in the central. If we can figure out how to show NCAA basketball games at the same time there's no reason to not be able to show hockey games at the same time.

Not only that but this isn't a single game starting at 8:42 for 2 CT teams. 60% of the games in the series have started this late, 2 of the 3 of those late games coming on weeknights. I can handle a single game starting that late, it happens. I can easily handle it if my team is playing a pacific based team.

Why not have the Eastern Conference games start at 630 Eastern, then have the Hawks/Blues start at 8pm Central? It seems to be a decent middle ground. I get the Hawks are the ratings darling of the NHL, but as was said earlier people on the East Coast are not going to stay up and watch if they are not fans of the Hawks. They might if they were on earlier.

that's not a real middle ground. The east coast isn't going to be able to adjust to 6:30 start times. People barely make it to 7:05 starts on time.

The bottom line is you do not need to fear having more than one game on at the same time. Start the east coast games at a normal time and then central follows an hour later, like they do with everything else.

Bettman spoke out about Foley's comments today saying they were off the mark.

Also McDonough called him to say that he was not happy with what Foley said.

Come on you morons, don't run Foley out of town again.

McDonough's about due for a job change. He played his part and did it well, but he's not going to be much use in the next phase of the game, which will be finding a way to stay good after being great for so long, and they probably need somebody other than a PR guy in charge to accomplish that long-term.

Theoretically, 6:30 starts shouldn't matter since the consideration is viewership, not east coast attendance having to adjust to an earlier puck drop.

east coast viewership will be hit hard. The East Coast has been trained for decades to watch horsefeathers starting a little after seven. People are not home at 6:30, they aren't turning on their TV to see if the game started at 6:30.

They still want viewers in the Midwest to tune in for east coast games. Nobody in the CST is going to run home to watch hockey.

The simple answer is stated above in bold.
