Blackhawks playoffs 2016: The games finally mean something

There might not be another gear for this years Blackhawks. Terrible PK and terrible defensive depth carried over from the regular season and have killed us thus far this series Not to mention bad 5 on 5 numbers. Oh and the deadline acquisitions have (I believe) 0 points this series.

 

A lot of it though is simply bad luck. Hawks have gotten some breaks but I think we've also carried play most of this series without a ton to show for it. Unbelievable performance by Elliott

 

Sucks because we traded a lot of pieces to build this team and next years team might be worse

 

Still time though. Being down 3-1 without home ice is still not a death sentence for these Hawks if they can't come back tonight.

Blackhawks have outplayed them (at least in terms of CORSI) most of the series. The blues are probably better but I'm not convinced the Hawks were the better team in any of the past 3 playoff series they've played and we've been able to win.

Just gotta do what they did against the Predators in 2010 again.

 

Now they just have to do what they did against Detroit in 2013 but without home ice

Terrible penalty but the meatball in me says there was no penalty on the cross check to his neck after the goal earlier and that horsefeathers happens all the time.

strongly disagree. the blues are not better. i think the blackhawks are a superior team. the blackhawks stars aren't getting it done, and elliot is standing on his head.

Someone smarter than me give me an explanation as to why this wouldn't be a giant pie in Stan's face if the Hawks lose on Thursday?

 

Emphasized trading young assets in order to upgrade the lines instead of getting blue line depth. Those new guys have 0 total points this series yet the leaky Hawks D has led to at least 3 inexcusable goals. Now because of the Panarin bonus, not only will they not be able to add via FA, but they will have to lose someone like Shaw and have to replace him and 3 other guys. We still have young talent in the system but it's definitely been stripped down a bit going for it this year.

 

And I don't blame him for going for it this year. I just don't buy it when people say that there was no one there to trade for on the blue line. To me it seemed like the D was a bigger issue than scoring depth and I think if Stan prioritized defense he would have gotten someone.

 

And while I am not anti-Stan and think he has done a very good job, he's also made some moves over the last year that haven't worked out. The whole Daley to Scuderi to Ehrhoff series of transactions looks even worse knowing that Daley has been a solid contributor in Pittsburgh. And for the second year in a row he got a big name at the deadline that Q gives healthy scratches to in the playoffs.

 

Look I can't be mad about the Hawks. While this is a long rant and probably one that can be refuted, I'm not too mad if we can't come back and win the series. But I do think that next year we will have the weakest team that we've had in the Q era and it will take some shrewd acquisitions and/or player development for the Hawks to get back to the level they've been at the last several years.

The tipping point for Blackhawks likability and performance likely peaked last June. Not that they won't be popular or can't win a cup, but it wouldn't be surprising if the "dynasty" is over and between Kane and Shaw, the likability factor is certainly waning for the fringe fans.

 

Wings won in 97, 98, and 02 and then not again until 08. I could see that being the Blackhawks. We got our 3 in a short window and they MIGHT be able to get 1 or 2 more later in the Toews/Kane/Keith core's careers. Hossa is done, Seabrook is declining rapidly, and the salary cap stuff is coming to roost.

 

A comparison could be the 09 PGA when Woods blew a lead in a major on a Sunday for the first time to YE Yang. 3 months later, his personal life stuff hit the fan, and despite times of great performance since then, he's never won a major and really tailed off since then.

Yeah that makes sense...we will see. It's possible we become just another good hockey team for several years. It wasn't going to continue forever, and as long as Kane and Toews are until like 33 the team will be good and have the potential to compete.

 

Lets not bury this year's team yet though.
