Maybe it's an administrative thing? Maybe there's a process for putting someone on the 60-day DL that takes some time, so they put them on 15-day in the meantime?

They may wait and see if any early season buy low DFA vet comes along in early May to use that 40 man spot on rather than using it on whatever next in line prospect would take the spot and still not be called up. They could go 39 for a while too, though. So who knows.

The armchair GM in me assumes it's more beneficial to wait in the event that someone who is not on the 40-man steps up this year and proves worthy of keeping on the 40-man roster and they make the 60-day transition near or in the offseason to protect that new shiny prospect from the Rule 5 draft.

Wouldn't placing him on the 60 day stall his service time clock? That seems like a good idea.

No, you accumulate service time on the 60 day DL. In theory they could option Schwarber prior to DLing him, but that would be a grievance the Cubs would and should lose.

"But he didn't even have a hit! We thought he could use some more seasoning when healthy."

Yep. I think jersey was right. Don't make a decision until you have to.

Theo just needs the 15 days to find a good witch doctor who can use voodoo to fix Kyle's knee.

Or this guy

Just thought I'd share these thoughts written on facebook by a super bitter Sox fan I know.

"First of all I'm sorry Schwerber got hurt. Funny thing though I've searched the media and haven't found one single person say 1) why did St. Theo pick a catcher who he knew couldn't catch at the ML level and 2) why did Joe (the best manager in baseball) Maddon have this kid in left where he doesn't know what he's doing? Should have stuck the mime out there. I'm just saying..."

It works beautifully in The Show's franchise mode, though. Or it should, anyway. I play all the service time games i can on that game.

For a split-second, seeing this thread title active again almost gave me a heart attack. I thought he had some kind of terrible setback.

You and I are different people. I instantly thought of a miracle comeback.

if he can do that now (i'm sure he's still a bit gimpy) i bet he could totally kirk gibson a few pinch hit ABs in mid october if needed. that's worth a roster spot.
