If Zobrist is due back, it’s gonna have to be soon. He’ll need what - 2 weeks at Iowa to get back in baseball shape? If he’s not on the roster by 9/1 - no playoff roster.

so why would it have to be soon? two weeks prior to 9/1 is a month from now

We all love Zobrist, but I'm not sure how much he can help the team. He's 38 years old, was terrible early this season, and hasn't faced live ML pitching since he left. He might help inspirationally, but I'm not expecting much on the field. Hopefully he will prove me wrong.

I didn’t mean to sound frantic, but yeah - I guess we’ll know within a month. Clock is ticking.

Counterpoint: Unless Robel Garcia is the real deal (which, given the K rate, I don't see it as anything more than a hot month that we should enjoy/take advantage of before the league stops throwing him fastballs), we throw out at least one complete zero in the line up on a daily basis. Zobrist didn't show much earlier this year, but I'll gladly take him over Russell/Descalso at second or Almora in the outfield.

Do we want to talk about Cubs vs Barstool? No? Alright cool.

Cubs PR vs Barstool.

The barstool guys made clear that they love baseball ops guys and think Ricketts is the coolest owner in all of sports.

Some Twitter searching isn't getting me much anywhere, how do I get a little more context without clicking a barstool link?

Apparently the new thing for Barstool type people in the bleachers is making long piles of empty beer cups ("Cup Snakes"). Barstool started encouraging it, think they are selling shirts on it now. The bleacher security people have been pretty quick to try and shut it down (looking under seats, etc.), and between that and Barstool pushing it, it seems like it's just getting more prevalent.

Anyways, Barstool Chicago published an article today with a (pretty terrible) email from Julian Green, head of marketing or whatever, basically threatening to pull all access/affiliation/etc (and even legal action) unless they stopped promoting it. Really, everyone involved is terrible.

Edit: They also apparently fired some bleacher security guy who went on one of the podcasts to give some background on the Cubs position towards it all.

What's bad about cup snakes?

(I almost want to punch myself in the face for even asking that question.)

From what I can tell on the videos, the goal is to get them to five or six feet long. At that point, they're pretty unstable and usually leaking leftover beer all over the place. It's entertaining, and far from the worst thing that's happened in the bleachers, but I get the Cubs not being huge fans.

I know he will most likely never pitch for us again but the whole Morrow discussion just went to dead silence. What is going on with him?

The other problem is fans sitting a few rows away start throwing their cups towards where the snake is forming so they can add on. Don't really like fans throwing things in general.

This is random but I was just looking at the postseason OPS of most of the Cubs that have played multiple postseasons with the team during this run and its amazing that we'd had a moderate level of postseason success including a championship and 6 series wins.

Schwarber 1.016

Ross .858

Bryant .743

Contreras .716

Rizzo .690

Baez .662

Russell .596

Zobrist .589

Almora .508

Happ .476

Montero .428

Heyward .323

LaStella .071

Not sure how to find this and too lazy to do the work, but I'd guess the average runs scored in the playoffs is lower than in the regular season.
