I'm available, hire me. I'll hire a team of 6 nerds to tell me what the best thing to do is at any moment, and then I'll sit at the top stoop and chew on a cigar or whatever

What if we did exactly this? Hear me out. They could each take turns being in charge, each getting to give the others advice when it isn’t their turn to be the one calling the shots. And since they’re all nerds, we could call it, I don’t know, a “college” of coaches.

That’s cutting edge, right there.

cubsandbears is jesse rogers?

Q: Is Maddon really managing for his job?

A: The only reason this isn't a completely crazy question is that three playoff managers -- Joe Girardi, John Farrell and Dusty Baker -- didn't return to their respective teams after last season.

Hahaha wtf is a playoff manager? Jesus christ

That's like suggesting that someone is looking to dump their perfectly serviceable RV because they passed 3 abandoned wrecks on the highway.

guys who managed in the playoffs last year and were still fired

is there a joke or board meme i'm missing here?

i didn't think it was a strange thing to point out that there's plenty of recent precedent for managers to be fired after a season in which they went to the playoffs. doesn't make the made up narrative about maddon any smarter, but i didn't find that particular comment out of line, especially not by that idiot's standards.

Ah, moving on... Cubs made some moves today. Addition-by-subtraction style:

The Cubs Sept. 1 moves include activating Kris Bryant and Addison Russell from the disabled list while purchasing the contracts of Triple-A outfielder Terrance Gore and catcher Taylor Davis. Righty James Norwood was recalled as well from Triple-A. To make room on the 40 man roster pitchers Luke Farrell and Rob Zastryzny were DFA. Bryant will play third base and bat fifth in his first game since late July. Newly acquired catcher Bobby Wilson has joined the team and is eligible to come off the disabled list on Tuesday.

Well, goodbye Rob Z and Luke Farrell. I'd say we'll miss you, but then I'd be lying.

In a season where the Cubs are going to yet again win over 90 games, I inexplicably got to see a Luke Farrell start in person. What the horsefeathers.

My favorite Rob Z memory was when the Cubs were playing in Houston and we made a road trip down there for the series. Rob was shagging fly balls in BP and one of the guys in our group was trying to get his attention by spelling Z’s last name. He would shake his head no every time my friend got it wrong. It was a funny moment. Honestly that’s about my only Rob Z memory.

I don't think anybody will miss Terrance Gore, Taylor Davis, or Bobby Wilson either when their day comes.

I'm pretty sure I could have spelled it during Peak Rebuild a few years ago when the minor league forums got the most activity and everything was about top-100 rankings and whatever.

Now the actual Cubs have been awesome for four years and that Alzolay dude is the only Cubs prospect I can name off the top of my head.

Please don't call him "Z." He's not nearly awesome enough to steal that from the REAL Z.

Yeah, I was willing to allow, “Rob Z,” but plain old Z is pretty egregious.
