Counter-counterpoint: Why wouldn't the Cubs trade Kris Bryant?

They would if they believe he's permanently broken and want to get KB level assets for a player who's never going to be KB again.

If they don't think that, then there's absolutely no reason to trade a player of his caliber right now unless they're getting someone they believe to be better right this minute in return.

What are we adding to make that fair value?

if you want to get depressed go look at Yelich's contract.

If you want to get extra depressed, think about how some of the players that the Cubs didn't want to give up for him are potentially going to be some of the reasons why they've decided they can't afford Harper.

Last offseason was just a disaster; we used up a whole lot of resources to not get any better. I cop to being happy about getting Yu (and still think we'll get something from him) but I really wanted Yelich and/or Cain as well.

Our outfield pretty much sucks.

its wild how much of the future really hinges on Yu if you think about it. The window (with this group at least) is firmly closed once his contract ends, and if 2019 is another lost year - i can definitely see a scenario where his elbow flares up early and we get 50 innings out of him again - he's essentially done as a SP and we are tapped out resource wise.
