Worst super bowl ever or worst football game that I watched in its entirety? I'm having trouble deciding.

i don't see how it's the worst super bowl ever. i can think of a worse one two years ago.

I would have preferred Carolina scored at the end 'cause I would have won ~$45,000

Whoa, how much did you bet?

it was a giant 900 box pool that pays out every score and typically has about that much left for final score

I see this game as more of an offensive struggle because both offenses sucked. I guess I'm a little biased since this is the same Denver Defense that nearly lost to the Bears who I wouldn't rate as one of the better offenses in the NFL this year. I also have a hard time accepting the "Wade Phillips is a defensive genius" meme.

I would have preferred a blow out because I could have turned it off in the 3rd quarter.

DeMarcus Ware didn't play in that game against the Bears. HUGE difference.

Damn, I'm sorta glad I missed this game. Hearing you guys talk it sounds like it was awful. Did Cam really bail on the postgame press conference?

Yes, he did, and as usual much too much is being made out of it. It wasn't a good look, but I'm sure he felt 100 times worse than I did, and if I'd had to address the media after that game for some reason, I'd have been pretty pissy too.

There were basically 4 things that had to happen for Carolina to lose that game and they had all happened by midway through the third quarter, which is when I knew they were going to lose:

- Defensive score (Von fumble TD)

- Some sort of special teams disaster (That stupid horsefeathering punt return where our idiot players didn't know it wasn't a fair catch, and Gano clanking the FG [what the hell is it with Carolina kickers and the Super Bowl?])

- Offensive line completely unable to give Cam any time at all

- A key drop by Ginn (which, in a lovely turn of events, directly led to an INT)

Any of those 4 things doesn't happen and the game could've easily flipped, but they all did. Carolina's defense essentially gave up 2 field goals that were their fault and the other 18 points were either gifts or the Broncos defense being awesome.

Just about any SB from the mid 80's to the mid 90's were all garbage blowouts with exception of Super Bowl XXIII and XXV.(of course I enjoyed SB XX)

This game was a one score game until late, it didn't have a lot of scoring but Id take last night's game over any blowout not involving my team.

Uh, he has been for a longtime. Just not a good head coach.

that's just an inevitability that should be incorporated into their gameplan

Agreed, I knew he would probably drop one - I was just hoping it wouldn't be a big one. Cotchery's drops were huge too. Cam was crappy, but he didn't get much help.

Seriously did Eli put a ton of money on the Panthers?

He can't lord that second ring over big bro anymore.

Man, I was hoping for either QB to be awesome and hoist their team to an exciting win. That...did not happen. Yeesh.

Seeing defensive teams duke it out can be ugly, but I didn't think this one was boring. Big plays and turnovers were there. Glad for Peyton after the career he's had to go out a champ. Eli's face made it all the better.

06 Bears defense slid once they lost Mike Brown and then Tommie down the stretch.

:good:

lost track of what page i was on but yeah

'06 Bears one of the 2 of 11 number 1 defenses to lose the Super Bowl? Or were they not #1?

They were 5th. Baltimore dominated that year.

Was looking up how Manning's Super Bowl performance compared to other QB's who won the Super Bowl. In Miami's back-to-back Super Bowls, Bob Griese was the only QB to throw a pass for Miami. In the two games combined, Griese went 14-18 for 161 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.

Football was played different 40+ years ago? No way!

Dolphins had the best defense and great power run game. They made games short and limited the number of possessions as well as limiting risk as much as possible. That was Shula's game plan. They ran the ball 50 times in each Super bowl and had leads from start to finish.

I'm well aware that football was played differently 40 years ago. In Super Bowl I, the Packers led the whole way with the exception of a few minutes when they were tied. Bart Starr threw 23 passes in that game. They led the whole way the next year also and Starr threw 24 passes. He threw for over 200 yards in each game.

The two Griese games were the two fewest attempts by a Super Bowl winning QB who played the whole game (Unitas had 9 but he got hurt and didn't play the whole game). There are only two instances of a QB throwing less than 18 passes in a Super Bowl win and it took Griese two games to reach that.

Right, but it shouldn't be surprising considering the team. Griese averaged 15 or so passes a game and like I said the Dolphins jumped out to leads in both games. Dolphins almost exclusively passed only when they had to. 3rd and longs, down late ... etc.
