I think the Cubs have the rotation edge, we have the edge in lineup, and the pens are pushes going into the year. Ahead of adding Ozuna I would have said the lineups were pushes as well. I like that back of the napkin math at the end of the day. I guess I'm more looking at the additions for both teams, and I see us as playing the same smart game as Chicago but, to my biased eyes, doing it better. I wrote a long thing comparing their moves to ours this season but the shorter version is that I think we have matched them every time and we added someone in Ozuna that they have not (yet) come close to adding.

Is this as delusional as it sounds? Because it seems pretty horsefeathering delusional to me, especially the bolded.

I just think it’s amazing their lineup is better than ours in an offseason where they traded three future HoF players.

By steamer projections on Fangraphs, the Cubs are the #1 offense in the NL at 5.01 runs per game. The Cards are 5th at 4.77. In pitching, the Cubs are 3rd in the NL at 4.32 runs per game and the Cards are fifth at 4.34. By projected run differential, the Cubs are 2nd at 112 and the Cards are 4th at 70.

By projected record, the Cubs have a four game cushion at this point, 92-88. However, we stand to gain around 2-3 wins if we sign Darvish.

What part of the brain is capable of recognizing defense as a thing?

I’d have to think it would be allowed in context.

Sooo... Buddy of mine posted on Facebook that the Holland signing made them a 100 win team and division favorites. After the first game with the Mets was over, he slightly reduced his forecast and said he thought they were worth at least a good 70 wins.

In their game just now there was a routine, shallowish, fly ball hit right at Ozuna in left, he maybe had to move 5 feet and there was a runner on 3rd about to tag up.... Pham came running from out of the screen to cut in front of Ozuna to catch it and throw it home, it wasn't a close throw and the runner easily scored since Pham couldn't get set under the ball and the Mets announcers are speculating Ozuna has some sort of a right arm injury.....

edit: Mets announcers went to talk to McCarver during the commercial break and McCarver apparently told them in one of their last ST games Ozuna had a similar play and threw a "10 hopper" to home. Seems like he has something going on there.

Maybe he throws to home about as well as Jon Lester throws to 1st.

I was wondering the same thing. He makes a couple throws in this clip that look like a child impersonating Hunter Pence.

So they have a guy in LF who has a shitty shoulder, a guy in CF who can't see and Fowler's awful arm in RF and Carpenter who has a shitty shoulder at 3B. They are like the Mets of position players.
