Yeah, somehow I doubt they were this bothered by the decades of mostly futility before 2015.

Yeah, I can't imagine they were crying over the Cubs tanking when the Cubs were, you know, tanking. It was fine when they sucked on purpose until that netted positive results later

I specifically remember Cardinals fans (and announcers) making fun of the Cubs for trading away 40% of their rotation every year.

If or when the Cardinals decide to trade away some assets this summer like Peralta, Carpenter, Wainwright, Adams, Grichuck, Wong, etc. and become younger, better defensively, and more athletic in 2018, what will this be called?

An outstanding "rebuild" no doubt because they don't "tank" in St. Louis.

Good point, it's always funny when front offices and teams and fans are too full of themselves/their team to admit to easing off the "Gotta win now!" throttle.

But admittedly, it is kinda shitty to tell fans "we ain't trying for it this year".

Sure, "not trying this year" sucks for current fans, but for fans of OTHER TEAMS, YEARS LATER?!

"Clanks all over on that one; the throw was even on one hop."

I know we're making fun of the Cardinal defense here, but my god those announcers are so dumb. It literally doesn't matter if Gio came off the bag because the Cardinals guy never tagged him. Once he touches the bag, the force out is gone.

The logic over at GRB is unassailable.

"They're only good because of a bunch of early draft picks."

"If becoming great were inevitable when you draft early, then the Twins should be a powerhouse."

"Well, it's not just the drafting, it's also the tanking, and using money to buy free agents."

"Hmm... it sounds to me like you are admitting that Theo Epstein is amazing at everything his job entails: drafting, trading. and signing players."

I just peeked ahead to whom the Cardinals will be facing today through the weekend and oh boy... :D

Today at Wash. Scherzer (could get ugly, excuse me uglier)

Friday at NYY Tanaka (maximum suckage to start the season but he's still Tanaka)

Sat CC (a revitalized CC)

Sun. Pineda (who had a no-hit bid last outing)

The Cardinals have allowed the most runs in baseball so far.

They also have the largest RD deficit in baseball.

Giving new meaning to the term "run differential game."

I also like how pissed they are that people are writing books about the 2016 Cubs, when they assuredly soaked up every word in the Buzz Bissinger book about their crotchety, fossilized wino.

It amazes me some of the excuses that a lot of Cardinal fans come up with to not acknowledge Theo's accomplishments over the last 15 years.

Walt Jocketty was pretty darn good at his job and Mo is too. There, I said it. It didn't even hurt that much.

Mo was good but it kinda seems like he's lost his touch here in the last couple years, tbh.

Three examples given in that GRB thread why the Cubs team wasn't 'homegrown' (why this matters, I don't know) - Baez, Contreras, Soler - are categorically false as none were ever in another organization. At least they're paying attention.

they are cards fans. when they say those guys aren't homegrown they mean they are not white americans

Yeah I agree. For Mo to stand up there at the end of the year press conference and promise to address in the off-season the teams' lack of athleticism and "porous defense" (those were the actual words he used), then failing miserably to do so was head-scratching.

I saw some guy that I didn't know at work wearing a Cardinals Heyward jersey today, and I had so many questions I wanted to ask him.
