Saw this over at GRB:

People will be confused when the cards finish 20 games behind the Cubs, but we knock them out in the nlds. Just like in 2006 and 2011, we will vastly underperform our Pythagorean in the regular season.

The Cards are underperforming based on their pythag, sure. But if the standings were based solely on Pythagorean record, the Cubs would still be on pace to win the division by 20+ games.

Everyday that guy throws logic out the window in order to put down the Cubs. Not shocking.

He (and a few others) do mental gymnastics to create a narrative where the Cubs and Cards are comparable teams, and that the big gap is a result of unfortunate circumstance. The sweep has really gone to some of their heads.

Of course the actual circumstances are that the Cubs are really good and the Cards are not.

My favorite idiotic thing to come from there in the past week or so is a poster insinuating we should be really worried about Rizzo's back and likened him to David Wright 2.0. Completely throwing out the fact Wright has a degenerative/genetics thing going on there and Rizzo just swung the bat wrong or sat/slept on the plane funny.

Cardinals fans will be confused when they finish 20 games behind the Cubs and don't get to play in the NLDS because they didn't make the playoffs.

Can Grichuk play 1B? Maybe we can swindle them into a trade: Rizzo for Grichuk. I heard Grichuk is gonna be a "special" player.

Now you know what it's been like to be a Cardinal fan listening to Cubs fans for most of the last two decades.

Fans of most teams will try to find reasons why they think their team is or will be successful. I'm sure there are Braves fans out there thinking they might have a second half charge.

The Cubs are a better team than the Cardinals. That doesn't predict what will happen in October.

I don't know what Cubs fans you talk to, but myself and the ones I know have been acutely aware of when the Cubs have been bad, which has been most of my life.

The thing about this year is that the Cards have been good for so long that many Cards fans can't reconcile with the notion that their team just isn't all that great. I suppose that speaks positively to the franchise.

And of course one can't predict what will happen in October, but that's because of the nature of the thing, not because the Cards are some sort of sleeping giant with a misleading record. The Cubs have the division lead that they do because they have been that much better.

Oh, I agree. The Cubs are just a better team this year.

To my surprise as a Cardinal fan that lives about 20 blocks from Wrigley is that the rivalry has been pretty well behaved this year. I think if you ask most objective Cards fans they'd agree that this team isn't on par with the Northsiders.

I do however think we're both going to have teams that compete for division titles for the next half decade at least.

I think that's a good thing.

To their credit most Cardinal fans I know have been very humble and easily admit the Cubs are a better team, even after the Cards swept the Cubs.

Carpenter with an oblique injury confirmed, last time he had one it took 4 weeks to get back. But they can linger and take longer, so he should really be careful and take his time.

Also Diaz replaced him on the ASG roster so your dreams of not having to see any of those chumps playing on the same team as the Cubs is dashed, and it will also likely mean a shorter appearance for Addy in the game because previously I believe there were only 2 SS on the roster.
