Disclaimer: I have watched more soccer in the last 90 minutes than I have in the last 10 years (outside of Ted Lasso episodes... LOVE Ted Lasso!).

But I kinda want tonight to be evidence #1237819023789016238761203861098243608962314 that everything trump touches turns to $hit.

Absolutely. The Trump stink is all over this one

Never forget, the Knicks' hot streak ended when he showed up and slept through Game 3.

He can’t even let us lose fair and square.

You just know this supporter has a plan to turn this around.

He’s probably in a bar somewhere talking even some crazy horsefeathers right now.

Maybe I’m misremembering. But I don’t think Netherlands kicked our ass this bad 4 years ago. They were better for sure.

Really, the US was the better team in that game 4 years ago. Here, not at all.

As a casual Fulham fan and a fan of Tim Ream... did we really have no other standouts better than a 38 year old Ream for this team? I thought this from the time they had their roster set, but kept my mouth shut about it because the US was playing so well. He was overmatched all game.

Pulisic was terrible. Not even invisible, he was a negative every time he touched the ball.

Tillman had a hell of a game. I couldn't believe when he scored again on the set piece.

Antonee, Richards, and Adams had solid games. McKennie looked good when he was attacking, but was bouncing all over the place when he was back to defend.

This game was nowhere nearly as bad as the final score indicates. Freese is gonna need a bottle of something very strong tonight, that may end up being one of the worst plays in a US world cup game.

This was the chance to make a run too. In 4 years, we’ll be in Pot 2. That means unless we get Paraguay or maybe Uruguay, we’ll be in a group with a team like Belgium, Argentina, Spain, England, etc. So unless we pull an upset we’ll finish 2nd or 3rd which means either a group winner or runner up instead of a 3rd place team in the R32.

Pulisic was bad (and/or injured), Dest was bad, the back line was too thin to handle a coordinated attack (as was plain from the Turkiye game where the backup defenders may as well have not even been on the field).

Need to develop more and better defenders, and keep developing program depth so that there's less dependence on one player to succeed.

This was also the US's worst effort of the tournament, start to finish, and that includes the Turkiye game where nobody played.

Maybe you mistyped but this game was definitely as bad as the final score indicates. If Belgium wanted to put up 6 on us, they could have.

Yeah. That could have been 4-1 early, not just in the end. USA panicked every touch. Nobody wanted the ball.

4 more years of our supposed best generation, still outclassed in the round of 16

Hopefully they’ll be known as a better generation but far from the best.  A tiny country like Belgium can outclass the US because they are better at growing players.

Look, I know nobody is happy with this outcome, but can we try to keep things in perspective? The US controlled the game. They won the possession battle and Belgian players were constantly having to grab US players that were passing them by. Belgium also benefited from a fluke goal on a bad play by our keeper and a garbage time goal by Lukaku.

The defense did play horrible, Belgium executed extremely well with the chances they had, and the US had very poor play in the attacking third, but the US hardly got dominated here. They were decisively beaten, but not dominated.

The US never seriously threatened to score other than the Balogun breakaway after the Tillman goal (which Courtois likely had saved if not for the deflection).

Sure we had lots of possession, but how much of that was Adams and the defenders shuffling it around and never really getting anything dangerous moving forward? We had no answers for playing from behind.

We won the possession because Belgium let us win it. It was 53-47 Belgium in the first half and 64-36 US in the second. Belgium didn't need to score, they knew they had another game in 4 days, and the knew we posed basically no threat offensively to score. So why would they press to try to win the ball back when they can just let us have it and do nothing with it?

And that's the only stat we won. 2.15-0.67 in xG, 15-7 total shots, 7-2 shots on goal, 21-12 touches in opponents box, 4-0 big chances created. All in favor of Belgium. The second half was pretty even because Belgium allowed it to be. They had more good chances to score (1) in the first minute than we had in 90. They dominated the first half and didn't need to do much the last 1/3 of the game.

Our goal was fluky as well. There's a decent chance Courtois saves that free kick if there's no deflection. And even if Belgium had two fluky goals, they also had multiple other chances that could very easily have turned into goals. Oh, and they didn't even start de Bruyne (had started all four games) and Doku (started 3 of 4).

Whatever.

Take em all out back and shoot them. They're worthless. Shouldn't have even played.
