https://awfulannouncing.com/local-networks/chicago-sports-network-marquee-merger-possible-comcast-dispute.html

Hilarious...that super special network the Cubs launched to increase revenues which clearly made a dramatic impact on the Cubs fortunes may be merging with CHSN because both networks are having trouble getting on/staying on Comcast.  So basically we may be back to where we started.  Those 7 documentaries that Marquee plays over and over again were well worth it though as well as replaying every Shota start last year as "classic Cubs games"

I'd be happy if the the Cubs were OTA with the Bulls and Hawks. Only thing I'm not understanding is why Peoria only has one CHSN channel. Maybe another one will happen eventually. I have my antenna hooked up and I have crystal clear Hawks games now. I might want to look into some sort of DVR option where I can tape games, but not crucial since replays are plentiful.

Is this fireable?

It shouldn't be.  But it is absolutely childish behavior, which isn't surprising.  And eventually, these minor incidents will pile up to the point where his bosses just don't want to deal with it anymore.

I think that time might be now. Yes this particular Twitter handle had been on Bernstein for some time, but you never bring someone’s else’s kids into your fight.

His random fight with Barstool last year was flatout weird (even though I can't stand Portnoy and his merry batch of shitposters), but this whole thing is veering into "Is he okay?" territory.

The camp he regularly helped raise funds for, Camp One Step, removed him from their board of directors. Danny Parkins didn’t like that they did that after all Bernstein had done for the camp. But you don’t get lifetime immunity for the consequences of your actions when you threaten someone else and their kids kids just because you raised lots of money for a kids camp even if the person you were threatening is a crazy MAGA nutjob.

Bernstein fired per Mitch Rosen. I’ve been listening to the Score since 2000 and for most of those years, Dan was a great listen. It sucks that after 30 years or so at 670, he had to go out like this, but it was a justified firing.

Completely justified firing.  He's had plenty of chances to correct his troubling behavior and keeps doing stupid horsefeathers.

That said, like you it sucks.  He hasn't really been the same since Boers and Bernstein went off the air, but I've been listening to him for most of the 25 years he's been on the air.  B&B was probably less PC than is acceptable, but it was still a wildly entertaining show IMO.  But he hasn't been particularly likable since then and given how many times he's changed hosts and time slots, I think he was much more dispensable to the Score than he was 5-7 years ago.

Come on now. It was a horsefeathers trad as hell sports radio show.

What does that make Mike North and Dan McNeil?

I liked Bernstein's perspective and POV, but it's also clear he was going way too far afield for a job like sports talk radio host, particularly since Boers left. It's sad, because I think Lawrence Holmes and Leila Rahimi are now the only two people left at the Score who actually bring something to the table, even if I don't always agree with them.

This crap goes out to Dan Bernstein, the self-proclaimed intellectual heavyweight, who spent decades calling out sports figures, media personalities, and even his own listeners for being thin-skinned and petty.  All it took was one guy on Twitter calling you a liar about releasing a fish, and suddenly you morph from a media personality into internet tough guy.  And then—because that wasn't unhinged enough—you decide to threaten the guy’s kids? Over a fish? A fish, Dan.

You spent years telling people to lighten up, mocking fans for getting too emotional about their teams, and now you just lit your entire career on fire because someone on the internet called you a liar? Dan, you used to be the guy delivering these Who You Crappin’ rants—now you ARE the crap.

So congrats, Bernstein. You went from debating sports to trying to dox a random Twitter user over a fish, all because your ego couldn’t take a hit. You weren’t exposing a fraud—you became one. And now, the only thing getting released is you from your job. Dan Bernstein, who you crappin’?

Boers and Bernstein really got me through some really boring and miserable jobs in the early 2000's to the mid-2010's, so I hand it to 'em. They could never find a good pairing for Bernstein after Boers retired, and sadly, the rest of the figures of the Score aren't really all that compelling. I think Laurence was O.K. paired up with him, but clearly the two of them didn't get along all that well because Laurence left the second he could to join with Spiegel. Marshall Harris is alright but he just doesn't have all that much character.

Anyway, to quote another elderly man who's also addicted to social media: "I'll keep drinking that garbage."

Was Berstein at the Score when it started in 1992? If so he was the last original left after Grobstein died.

I started listening to the Score during the Bulls 4th Championship run. And B and B was probably my favorite when they started together in probably 2000ish, always loved the regular callers they brought on like Mike from Milwaukee who every Friday was 3 sheets to the wind by mid afternoon.

He didn't get there until 1995.  He actually was an announcer for the Rockford Lightning early in his career and then did the Bulls beat before he started working with Boers.

We’re almost entirely through one season of the Bulls and Hawks not being on CHSN on Comcast and now the White Sox games aren’t going to be on either. If CHSN is really going to wait for a better deal, I guess they are lucky their teams suck so the public outcry isn’t as strong.

Even when those teams are good again, people move on.  Some of their former audience will return, and some won't.  I'm happy with CHSN as someone who gets it for free with an antenna, but the rollout has really been a disaster overall.

Local sports radio shows have really disappeared.  I turned The Score on today following the Cubs game. There was a short post-game show and then they went straight to a syndicated sports betting show.  Is there really not a market for an extended post-game show or other local coverage on a Saturday afternoon?  Who is listening to generic national coverage from BetMGM (or whatever it was that sponsored it)?  Or are they so focused on pinching pennies that the can't afford to pay a couple guys to sit in a studio for a few hours?
