I am enjoying the Dodgers being bad now. I'm not enjoying the Dbacks being good now though.

I am also glad to stop hearing about how they could be one of the greatest teams of all time.

Personally I'm shocked the team playing Chris Taylor and Chase Utley, amongst others, everyday with a tandem of broken pitchers failed to become the best team of all time

how late and how big of a lead did the fried chicken and beer team have? it was, what, like 9 games around this time of year, right?

eating cookie dough during the game is a bit extreme

That sketch was hysterical, but literally everything in that gif makes me want to barf.

With the Indians streak I was looking at the list of longest MLB winning streaks. The 1916 Giants hold the record of 26, though they did tie a game in there. That team also had a 17 game winning streak in May. Despite that, they finished 86-66 and 7 games back of the playoffs.

Orioles catcher Welington Castillo’s game against the Blue Jays began and ended in the first inning. That’s because Toronto catcher Miguel Montero inadvertently created a little backstop-on-backstop violence with a foul tip that hit Castillo right where he least wanted to be hit.

Castillo left the game with what was announced as a contusion. He was later taken to a local hospital for further tests, while the Orioles lost, 4-3. Ouch.

Geez...his presence forces him Wellington off the Cubs right before 2 playoff runs and a championship and now Miggy tries to take the possibility of more children away from Beef.

If that happened to me I'd want a doctor to give me a general anesthesia or put me an induced coma for a week.

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/20711326/mlb-reviewing-pitch-buck-farmer-detroit-tigers-hit-umpire

NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball is reviewing an incident in which an umpire got hit by a pitch that a catcher missed in a game between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

Plate umpire Quinn Wolcott was struck in the left shoulder Wednesday by a fastball from Detroit's Buck Farmer that sailed past the mitt of backup rookie catcherJohn Hicks.

Two batters earlier, Wolcott had ejected catcher James McCann and manager Brad Ausmus after a close pitch to Cleveland'sJay Bruce was called ball four.

MLB was checking the circumstances of Wolcott being struck, the person told the AP. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because MLB was still looking into the matter.

Wolcott was knocked over by the impact of Farmer's pitch. As he was being examined by a trainer and talking to the other umpires, Wolcott appeared on a television replay to ask, "They didn't do it on purpose, did they?"

I've watched the replay a bunch of times and it really just looks like a rookie backup catcher got crossed up. He is expecting the ball to break to his right and the ball just keeps going straight.

First I had heard of it and I hadn't seen it discussed here

I can't recall another instance where this claim was made

Didn't Rick Wilkins do this and was tossed?

I'm of the opinion that if you are able to dive such that you touch the bag immediately as you contact the ground...like if the runner were diving for a fly ball that would land at the spot where the bag is....then it's faster than running through the bag, but sliding for any actual distance is slower.

Obviously this is ignoring injury risk.
