I got to Ty Cobb in 7. In only about 10 minutes of trying. Could probably get down to 6 with some research.

Ty Cobb 1928 A's > Jimmie Foxx 1944 Cubs > Andy Pafko 1959 Braves > Spahn > Niekro > Henderson > Jackson

Great conversation and a great episode. It is kinda long, but if you're interested in hearing from Kiley and Eric then it's well worth it. They talk about their book and the future of scouts in baseball and how the industry is changing. I miss their UMP podcast so this is the closest thing we'll get to that again.

I definitely recommend purchasing the book. It's a fantastic read during these self-quarantine times.

I think we'll take whatever form of baseball we can get at this point.

Major League Baseball officials have become cautiously optimistic this week that the season will start in late June, and no later than July 2, playing at least 100 regular-season games, according to three executives with knowledge of the talks. They requested anonymity because the plan is still under consideration

...

MLB is considering a three-division, 10-team plan in which teams play only within their division – a concept gaining support among owners and executives. It would abolish the traditional American and National Leagues, and realign the divisions based on geography

.

EAST

New York Yankees and Mets, Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins

WEST

Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners

CENTRAL

Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers

I’m assuming in these situations they would just have the DH for all games? Heck we might have seen the last of pitchers hitting if they move forward with adding the DH to the NL in 2021.

Anyways, I feel like this gives an advantage to the AL teams playing in divisions with NL teams since they’ve built their rosters to accommodate a 9th starting batter.

Maybe the Cubs can convince Zo to come back for a 80 game season at DH.

Pretty sure they’ve said the DH and expanded rosters will be part of any plan. I also think our roster is built perfectly fine for a DH and we aren’t at an inherit disadvantage vs an AL team. Between Schwarbs, Souza, Happ, Kipnis, Rizzo, Vic, Willy, KB and Bote we have a lot of flexibility with how to play guys in different spots and use the DH.

I've mentioned this before, but if you love stories like that, you should definitely read Crazy '08. It's full of that stuff plus as we all know that season has a happy ending.

I'm definitely rooting for the Lotte Giants. They hired former Cubs scout Sung Min-kyu as their new GM.

Yeah, I'll definitely watch some games if ESPN comes to an agreement with KBO and its broadcast partners.

The Cubs Way shaped Sung, 37, who worked as a player/coach/translator for the Class-A Peoria squad managed by Ryne Sandberg in 2008. Sung attended MLB’s scouting school in the Dominican Republic and he lasted through the sale of the team from Tribune Co. to the Ricketts family, and then the transition of power from Jim Hendry’s group to the Theo Epstein administration. Sung earned a 2016 World Series ring, took on special assignments as a pro scout in the United States and served as the organization’s Pacific Rim scouting supervisor until the final weeks of the Joe Maddon era.

“Theo changed everything,” Sung said on the phone from South Korea. “I watched how the team changed from the inside.”

Epstein has described Sung this way: “Min was a valuable contributor and a great teammate during his time with Cubs. He was an outstanding evaluator of talent and wasn’t afraid to put a big grade on a young, unproven player — usually with great foresight. Min also understood the big picture and how the different elements of a baseball operation fit together. Add in his terrific people skills, integrity and work ethic, and it’s not a surprise he’s earned this opportunity at such a young age.”

Great article.

I was already rooting for the Lotte Giants, but I'm going to take a more active interest in them now. They're pretty big underdogs this year and they don't have the best ex-MLB talent on hand... Former Cubs pitcher Dan Straily is on this team lol.

Scott Boras being disingenuous?

I'm shocked lol

I'm getting very frustrated with messaging like this, which was common last month when the subject of a potentially delayed football season started up. Not because people shouldn't stay home as much as they can, but that by itself will have jack and horsefeathers to do with whether we get sports again anytime soon. Either testing will be ramped up enough or it won't. Either someone will find effective treatments for this virus or they won't. Neither of those things is affected in the least by whether people stay home.
