So regardless of how many games get played this year, MLB is granting players a year of service time no matter what. Was wondering how they would handle that this year.

Yeah I’d assume they just pro rate it off of whatever the % reduction we see in games played/league year reduced.

The slate of games is kinda weird...

One of the most important games in Cubs' history is the obvious choice for our team. The 2018 5-for-5 game for Mike Trout is the best they could come up with for the Angels lol?

Yeah, the Phillies and Astros were weird also. Those three teams all have WS runs in their history (Arizona’s game is 2001 G7 so they could have picked an Angels game from 02) but they go with random regular season games.

Best one though is the Reds. They picked opening day last year. Not a great hitting performance, not a great pitching performance, not a great walkoff/comeback. Just last years opening day.

Yup, not surprised by this. Dexter Fowler is a good dude and it sucks he's on a rival team.

I hope we bring him back as a coach/instructor after his playing career is over.

That's super weird. They added that Jackie Robinson made a later list for 20th century's most influential, but they didn't have their annual Time magazine's Top 100 lists until later on.

It's a pretty good listen and I didn't realize how short and skinny Maddux was when he was drafted by the Cubs. It's funny how the scout that signed him had to fudge those details on the scouting report and made him taller.

is a 2020 mlb season still realistic at all? the country is going to be deciding what to open up until there's a vaccine. aren't forms of entertainment that pack 40,000 people in a box going to be a bad idea for far longer than the next 4 months?

I don't think people want to admit it but I don't see any way any sports happen this calendar year unless the scientific community pulls off something dramatic. (Which isn't off the table, to be clear.)

Even if we do have baseball or anything else, I can't imagine any universe in which fans are included.

Yeah if any of MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL happen I don’t think there will be fans or they’ll be extremely limited. I think the only sports we for sure get this year are probably nascar and golf since those can be done with the players/drivers having limited interaction with others.

That's awesome and Shin-Soo Choo seems like a great person.

In total, he's donating $191,000 to minor-league players in the Rangers' system. That's an incredible gesture, but this shouldn't fall on the players. Again, owners (and MLB) have way more money and $191,000 is nothing for them. It's shameful the way they're handling this with talk/rumors of some teams laying off staff and team employees next month.
