Vince Velasquez just pitched a complete game shut-out, giving up 3 hits, 0 walks, and striking out 16 (16!). Meanwhile, Ken Giles didn't win the closing job in Houston and currently has a 12.27 ERA, after giving up 3 homers in 3.2 IP.

So a 63-year-old woman was stretchered out of the White Sox/Rays game last night after taking a foul ball to the eye. When they described it as getting through a "gap" in the netting I figured it was an unfortunate, one-in-a-billion fluke...but then I saw the gap:

Way to go cheap with everything, Rays organization. I'm going to assume something like this hasn't happened before there because odds are the seats were empty.

It's ridiculous that netting and/or plexiglass isn't required to at least past the end of the dugout at this point (with no gaps/cracks). I hope this woman is able to sue the Rays/MLB and wins

So the Dbacks managed to trot out 3 completely different, completely terrible uniforms over our 4 game set.(I'd say 4, I've always hated their old uniforms, but I'm letting them slide since they're a godsend by comparison). I didnt even realize they were doing new uniforms until that series. Turns out, they've actually got equally terrible road unis to go with them.

Yes, because the Cubs don't already have a highly rated catcher prospect tearing up AAA that should play this and next year.

Syndergaard has been absolutely filthy so far this year, I heard today he's already thrown more sliders this year than he did all last year (Fangraphs has him throwing it nearly 25% of his pitches vs 2% last year) and he's AVERAGING 92 MPH on it. It will be interesting to see if he will be able to keep throwing so many sliders at that velo all year or if he breaks down. Maybe he's a freak and he can keep it up, but I think the evidence is pretty overwhelming that you can't be throwing so many sliders at that kind of velo for that long.

HA...I think Deadspin commenters figured this out...that chick is not his wife. She's immediately hiding her face and dude is flying up the stairs, leaving her behind. That dude may be in some trouble at home.
