I'll give Baker credit for this: He knows how to snipe jobs on underperforming teams to get credit for their regression to the mean.

Yeah, this was very predictable. The Nats will play the way they should have been regardless, and Dusty will win acclaim for it, and probably the MoY. The man has a knack for finding himself is extremely favorable starting positions.

It'll be interesting to see how he will botch things in the mid-long term, though.

And then sucking the life out of the pitchers, till they all lay lifeless in a heap on the training room floor.

I can accept that Dusty coming in after years of hard-ass, hateful managers can cause players to be happier and more relaxed, which can even translate into positive results on the field.

The effect is very, very temporary though. And that's even ignoring him destroying his pitchers.

The Yankees always want to ban things that hurt their team. I remember when Chien-Ming Wan jacked up his ankle on a freak injury rounding 3rd in an interleague game and Steinbrenner went on a rampage demanding they adopt the DH in the NL.

joe girardi wants mlb to ban defensive shifts

nah

i'd be fine with it. we barely shift and our defensive players are mostly wizard like. it would only help our hitters, i'd think.

but in reality, yeah, banning the shift is silly.

How would you even ban them or enforce them? Would Infielders have to be within a certain range of the bases at their position? What about no doubles defense when IF are on the line/OF are deep or in a walk off situation where the OF needs to play shallow because any deep fly ball ends the game? So dumb, just shut up Girardi

At least 3 players need to be on each side of 2nd base, 2 on the dirt and 1 in the OF. You'd still have people shifting up to the boundary, but that would prevent the LH hitter shift and limit the RH shift.

Shelby Miller, who the DBacks gave up like way too much to get, has an ERA right now of nearly 9

the phillies are over .500, which i don't think anybody really expected this far into the season.

also, the astros have one of the worst records in baseball, which is weird. their pitching has been a dumpster fire so far.

Those back to back #1 drafts of starting pitchers means help should be on the way soon.

Once his UCL finishes its growth spurt, Aiken should provide some help.
