The Indians took Bauer out of the rotation and he's starting the year in the bullpen. I know minor league stats mean nothing but he's pitched well and reportedly added velocity so he didn't "lose" the job because of a poor spring, I wonder if they are giving up on him and what it would take to get him?

Something about his stuff playing better in the bullpen and being given a shot later in the year. I'm miffed at this because I picked him up this offseason in my keeper league as one of my back end rotation guys and now between three of my pitchers starting the year on the DL and this Bauer business, I'm only gonna have 4 starters on opening day. The reason given on the news clip about it was that Cody Anderson and Josh Tomlin have "opened some eyes" over the last couple of weeks which is why they moved Bauer to the bullpen. Meanwhile, in the real world...

Cody Anderson Spring Training stats:

18.0 IP 15:4 K:BB 5.50 ERA

Josh Tomlin Spring Training stats:

17.1 IP 19:3 K:BB 4.67 ERA

Trevor Bauer Spring Training stats:

20.0 IP 19:4 K:BB 2.25 ERA

Bauer lost two of two available rotation spots to two guys who have been vastly inferior to him this spring because of him apparently being better suited for a bullpen role and the other guys impressing people. How they were impressing people I'm not sure, but yeah. Cody Anderson has a career K/9 in the minors of 6.8 and his K/9 last season in 15 starts in the majors was 4.3, but yeah he's had some eye popping horsefeathers going on these last couple of weeks apparently.

You might remember the Dodgers from such stories as 'Dodgers don't need Greinke with depth like this', and 'Tracing Andrew Friedman's family tree to General Custer'.

IIRC, it's the same elbow he'd previously broken as a prospect, and that he'd been having issues with all spring. Makes you wonder if it's going to be an issue that dogs him for his entire career.

Watched the video of the injury and it was really odd. He slid into home and touched it with his left hand, then when he went to push off the ground with both hands to get up, the right elbow just gave out on him. Either that dude's got an exceptional level of pain tolerance and there was something already cracked in there or he's brittle as hell and is going to have problems with that elbow forever.

When he broke it on 2010, it was a fractured growth plate, and part of the bone came off. It happened when he tried to use the arm to brace himself on a diving catch. While the force involve in that injury was ostensibly greater than last night's, the position the arm was in was probably pretty similar in both injuries. Perhaps the bone there is permanently compromised to some degree.

So Utley tried to take out a catcher last night. He went for the catcher instead of home plate and cost his team an out and a run

Is there any sort of repeat/cumulative offender rule with the slides/take outs into 2B and home plate like the NBA has with technicals that once you reach a certain amount you face suspension?

They continually have the weirdest FO/Managers personalities

Everytime I read Chip Hale's name I think of Tony Hale from Arrested Development. Buster Managing the DBacks..

stealing this from GRB.

“I hear what Bryce Harper is saying,” Murphy says. “He’s not talking about bat flips and hair and those specific things. He’s saying the players don’t want all these unwritten rules from the past. They don’t want to play the game that way. They want to inject their personality into the game. They want to show their emotions. They want to express themselves.

“And I hear guys from my time — I get it, I understand — talking about when we played. Well, when we played was when we played. We’re not playing. They’re playing. Let them have their fun. Let them mold the game into what they believe it should be. It’s their game. Heck, maybe they’ll get more young people watching.”

Murphy laughs. “There are enough old people watching baseball. We need some younger fans.”
