putting a 101-mph pitch into the Bay, foul...

barry bonds owned, still owns and will own forever

Bonds once told Peter Gammons that watching David Eckstein play baseball literally brought a tear to his eye, because he was so inspired by watching someone who had so little talent and yet wanted it so much.

lmao

Even though him being in the HoF should be a no-brainer, this makes me want him to get his own wing.

This whole White Sox thing is baffling. Why is Chris Sale taking this so hard? He seems like a weirdo.

He apparently just spouted off to the media too, about how the White Sox lied to the players....they aren't rebelling against the rules, they're rebelling against BS....and how the wrong people left that room...meaning it shouldn't have been the LaRoche's, it should've been Kenny Williams.

Juvenile. You're not in charge, Chris. You just throw baseballs.

I imagine he's definitely getting traded now. Maybe that's his goal?

Maybe Drake was Sale's poker buddy? This is weird.

It really isn't weird at all. Players genuinely believe (right or wrong) that the clubhouse is their place and that management doesn't belong there. I generally agree with them so long as there aren't major issues, and baseball has a long history of kids in the clubhouse. I think the 100% involvement is probably unique, but I don't necessarily disagree with LaRoche taking his ball and going home. KW handled it extremely poorly so I understand why someone like Sale would stage a little protest. He might be coming across as a bit of a "crybaby", but I'd venture to guess the majority of players around the league agree with him.

KW comes over to LaRoche and kindly asks, on his knees "hey...I know it is in your contract and everything, but do you think it would be ok if your teenaged kid didn't live in the clubhouse all the time? I mean, maybe he can crash at his mom's every other Sunday maybe?" and then LaRoche RETIRES FROM BASEBALL?!? And then the best pitcher on the team creates a shrine to commemorate the exceptional martyrdom that occurred. And it isn't weird at all? Whatever you say.

I think KW said he told him that "the kid comes to 100% of the games. Dial it down to somewhere between 0-50%, and probably closer to the low end of that." I know you were exaggerating but it wasn't an every other Sunday kind of thing. From LaRoche's perspective, KW had just agreed the 100% thing when he signed him so I can see why he'd be pissed. But it was stupid to promise it in the first place.

That being said, this would have been addressed before ST if Kenny really cared about it, so chances are he's coming off as the bad guy to protect whatever players recently complained.

The weird part is that it's in his contract. The part where he gets extremely pissed off when the contract stipulation is (allegedly) not honored, is not.

I'll take Sale off of their hands.

Baseball players are mostly really dumb people. This isn't even the slightest bit weird to me.

This sequence is one of my favorites ever but he never saw 101.

the announcers brought it up, so i wonder if the stadium had a different reading than the broadcast

Yeah, the more strange part is that the media picked this up and ran with it, since it is so commonplace and came to a predictable conclusion.

I'm going to give KW a little credit and think he might actually be kind of a genius in all of this. It's a lock at least some of the people in the clubhouse were sick of/weirded out by this kid being there ALL THE DAMN TIME and wanted him gone, or at least around less, and maybe vocalized that to upper management. Kenny falls on the sword and makes it out like this is all on him, gets a HORRIBLE player to quit and give up $15 million, and ultimately unites the team over this nonsense. If he actually planned any of it along those lines, I gotta tip my cap.
