Can someone convince me the Cubs have an above-random-chance shot at landing Otani?

Depends what age he is and what the rules for the international draft wind up being. I'm not really sure how it'll work.

Only a handful of mlb teams have signed players from Japan throgh th e posting system. Our chances are only random within that handful.

Add Will Smith to the list of bizarre spring training injuries...

The Milwaukee Brewers will start the season without reliever Will Smith, who tore a ligament in his right knee while taking his spikes off after a game.

Smith, who was set to share closer duties with Jeremy Jeffress, received the diagnosis Friday night and was awaiting test results to determine if surgery is necessary.

Smith said he was getting ready to shower after pitching in a minor league game Thursday and was standing on one leg to take off his other shoe when he lost his balance and twisted the knee.

"I pulled hard [on the shoe] and it stayed on," he said. "My knee just went up and popped. Everyone tells you there is nothing you can do about it, but you still feel like you are letting people down."

Completely random rant but have you ever noticed that whenever there's a discussion on the internet about the Cubs championship drought, there will always be a Red Sox fan that chimes in to remind everyone that they were once cursed too. It's almost like they want that as part of their identity and can't stand that someone else has a more futile run than they have.

I've noticed it, and it comes across as really condescending. "Aww, we were once there too. Keep trying little buddy. You'll get your shot."

Also noticed that if I have the audacity to pick the Cubs in a prediction thread, Cards fans pop out of the woodwork telling me to "try actually winning something before I start talking trash". Clearly, only the BFIB can get excited about their team's chances.

Random question: When do teams have to announce who they are putting on the DL for the start of the season?

Random question: When do teams have to announce who they are putting on the DL for the start of the season?

I think technically a team could wait until right before their opening day game to make DL moves. Like we could literally wait until Monday in pre-game warmups in LA to decide to put Javy on the DL or not and just have like Szczur or Alcantara or whomever along with the team in case he has to go to the DL to take his spot.

The Indians took Bauer out of the rotation and he's starting the year in the bullpen. I know spring training stats mean nothing but he's pitched well and reportedly added velocity so he didn't "lose" the job because of a poor spring, I wonder if they are giving up on him and what it would take to get him?
