This is really really cool stuff. I found PitchingBot over the winter and glad to see it's going to be somewhere more easily accessible.

The tl;dr is that both of these models try to break down pitching into its component parts, and granular enough to be at the specific pitch level. And because these are very process oriented metrics rather than results ones, they apparently reach a stabilization point WAY earlier than most of our other metrics. So we can start feeling more confident in some of the early season pitching storylines than we have historically.

Just a reminder for anyone who may have missed it, I posted this in a different thread:

I posted this “discount” last year around this time for those outside the Cubs television viewing areas.

The MLB Players Alumni Association offers a 50% discount on the MLB package for members. I re-upped my membership for $25. I’ll get an email link sent with the 50% discount. So the $150 package ends up costing $100. And now, with MiLB included, it’s a great deal. I did it last year and enjoyed watching a lot of games.

Here's a link: https://www.techhive.com/article/627464/save-50-bucks-on-mlb-tv-with-this-hidden-deal.html

I received the email link within a few days and everything works just ducky!

I wouldn't be opposed to each team getting a mulligan or three, just to minimize the chances of a key PA ending on an automatic call.

The point about a guy being involved with the defensive play to end the inning and then leading off the next inning is totally reasonable as well. That's a slam dunk to incorporate.

I would be very opposed to it. Either it's a rule or it's not a rule. At the end of the game, the team leading by a point does not get a do-over on a shot clock violation.

I don't go to a ton of games, but there's been a between innings timer for several years now and I've never noticed a hitter struggling to be ready to step to the plate by the time it started(whether an ump enforced that timer is another thing). What's changed with the pitch clock rules that makes this such a concern? I'm sensitive to the fact that if a guy makes a running catch in the RF corner then has to go to the 3B dugout to lead off that we don't want them to have to sprint to the plate, but I feel like this problem would've presented itself before unless I'm missing something.

Since you brought up basketball, in the NBA they do get a warning the first time they are assessed a delay of game (the second time is a technical foul). That's probably the closer analogy to the pitch clock.

Wowo, so many people are going to join the navy. This picture of the only team to win a championship at Citi Field would look great on that abomination:

lol

For comparison purposes, this video board is 17,000 sq ft. The one at Wrigley is 4,000. So more than 4 times larger. Insane

What in the name of Joey Tribbiani was the reason for putting Pete Alonso's name in quotation marks?

Because they were quoting the fans that were “chanting that man’s name”

Cancel Spring Training! It's meaningless exhibition games!

Meant to post this the other night, but I watched some of the White Sox / Astros game from Opening Day. Roger Clemens was in the booth, and I thought he did a really good job.  His analysis was great and he wasn’t dickish or overbearing at all.

Wonder if that was a one time thing or if he’ll be a regular.
