The Angel's fired a clubhouse attendant after an internal investigation confirmed suspicions that he had been providing opposing pitchers with ball-doctoring substances. He worked for them for 30 years.

Oh man I'd be livid if I were in that org.

I don't understand. Why did this guy have substances the other teams couldn't use on their own? Was he placing it on the mound in a way to make it harder to find out about or something?

Imagine getting drafted to the highest level of anything and being told you will start off making the same amount as someone who makes $10/hour.

Unpaid internships are a fairly common thing.

Which has what to do with the price of ginseng in Wisconsin?

It seems pretty obvious but okay. Workers in many (most?) industries are dramatically underpaid while in training for the positions that they are hoping to attain. In fact in many instances those positions are entirely unpaid. Ergo this is not even remotely a unique situation and given the potential reward at the end of the rainbow not really all that egregious.

Well many of those positions - especially the political ones - lead to high paying powerful jobs. Many (most?) of the trades involve unpaid apprenticeships. Hundreds of other examples but, hey, I guess if you want to call all those people idiots that's your prerogative. Doesn't mean you're not wrong though.

No, most trades do not start off with unpaid internships

"You're going to look back in 30-40 years and say there was only one Shoshei Ohtani"

I feel like this is true but not in the way the author maybe meant. I think it's going to be true in a Glenallen Hill, Rob Deer, Aroldis Chapman, Dwight Gooden, even Kerry Wood kind of way rather than a Barry Bonds, Mike Trout, Nolan Ryan kind of way. I don't think his crazy skills will translate into counting stat greatness or even a long enough period of rate-stat greatness for history to take notice.

Like I'll be sitting in my hovering rocking chair sipping on imitation iced tea supplement 42 and I'll start jabbering about Shoshei Ohtani. My grandkids will stick their heads out of the hatch of their sensory immersion game cube (trademark) buried in the floor and say, "who?", and my son will say, "honey, time to give the old man his morphine/propofol patch. He's babbling again". I'll fade off into a hallucination of my personal field of dreams as I crap myself.

They should just go ahead and negotiate the new labor agreement while this is going on.

A little while back I was talking about pitcher mechanics and how some pitchers gain control by altering their arm slot/release point. I mentioned how throwing from a higher release point/arm slot is better for throwing breaking pitches. I was bored and watching some clips and came across this clip courtesy @PitchingNinja.

This is what 100% spin efficiency looks like for a curveball:

Not a ton of spin or velocity for this curveball, but it's still pretty cool.

Spotted a doc on Netflix about the Biogenesis scandal called Screwball. Its wacky, but it's good.

Edit: this thing is horsefeathering wild. This is the McMillions of baseball

We talked about this months ago when it came out.
