Add Syndergaard to the list of pitchers going to see the illustrious Nick Riviera

At least this means the chances of suffering at the hands of a Mets loss again in the playoffs are quickly frittering away

Bonus points for calling the month.

So apparently in back to back days now our good friend Hawk Harrelson has called for someone to injure an opposing player. Yesterday after Frazier and Abreu were hit, he said something to the affect that Lawrie should hit it back at the reliever and clarified to mean hit him in the knee cap. Today after Abreu was hit again he said "someone has to go down" "and when I say go down I mean someone in a white uniform needs to get drilled" "Melky, take his kneecap off".

So on top of Matz having bone spurs/chips and surgery looking like a possibility, Syndergaard apparently has them too. Even though Syndergaard says he doesn't have them, all the NY writers are saying he does.

lol... apparently Syndergaard and Matz both have bone spurs. They sent them both to the hospital after their last starts. They then did nothing about it. And they rolled them back to the mound, and both guys sucked in their next starts. And the team is still debating on whether or not to send them under the knife this season.

A kid that went to my High School is starting for the Dodgers tomorrow. Brock Stewart is his name.

Yeah, the local youth baseball organization was bragging on facebook about him having played for them when he was young.

The smallest division lead as of this morning is 5.5 games. That seems pretty unusual for this time of year.

It does seem unusual. I wonder if that will become the norm in the tank mode system the Cubs have inspired. A select few teams get really aggressive while several choose to suck and then variance with all the rest.

How does that work when they go to the bullpen? Can they then use the DH? Or are they giving it up for the whole game now?

I'm pretty sure once you forfeit the DH that is it. It plays like a NL lineup then.

They give it up for the whole game. Pinch hitters after Bumgarner leaves. Same as if someone subs for the DH in a regular AL game.

the last 3 seasons he's hit 2% better than league average, which puts him roughly even with or better than 4-6 other starters in that lineup this year

i love it

He's not hitting nearly as well this year as he has in the last two. And even if he's hitting a little better than league average, the bullpen guys that pitch after him are most assuredly not....which means burning pinch hitters.

1) their bench kind of sucks

2) as mentioned above, the chances he goes at least 7 innings are pretty high

3) because you don't burn a PH as the DH, the first time you PH you are essentially even in terms of roster used with a DH. It's fairly unlikely that they use a 2nd PH in the pitchers spot given #2

I don't think its a brilliant move, but I don't think its stupid either. It's just fun.
