I can see the logic for sign Zobrist/trade Castro to an extent, but the Yankees are an uninspiring destination to get a return for Castro. It's easier to get excited about this if the other player coming back aside from Zobrist was like Archie Bradley or Gausman or something.

Schwarber for Carrasco?!?

Schwarber is untouchable.

Iunno, lefties and defense touch him up pretty nice.

eh. he hit them just fine in the minors. i think it'll just take a bit more time to adjust to MLB lefties. Rizzo used to struggle against LHP much more so than he does now, too.

This whole Castro zobrist thing really depends on what we get back for starlin for me

What do you think he's worth? I know you're not exactly high on him.

I'm not exactly low on him either

I figured he was worth more to us next year than he could actually bring back in a trade, so I really have no idea.

I thought you were pretty down on him. My bad.

I was in August.

I don't particularly like him, but he showed enough since that I don't just out and out want him off the team anymore.

I just think Zobrist is a big enough upgrade in years 1-2 that I'm willing to accept a bit less than what we're probably thinking he's worth. As an example, I'd be very happy with Adam Warren as the return.

Theo --> Starlin: we love you buddy. We know you are struggling, but you've been here since we'll forever. Even though Addi is like 10,000 times better, we ain't gonna trade ya!

Yanks -->Theo: Here's a pitcher.

Theo-->Starlin: SEE YA SUKKA WHERES MY HEYWARD

Surprised that Betences name isn't being mentioned. It would fit with the reports that we were exploring a trade for a top closer.

Yanks covet him. Would love him but I feel like Miller would be more likely from them.

I am intrigued by the Adam Warren rumor.

did I miss a tweet that's been posted that Warren is actually rumored to be tied to the trade? Or is this still speculation on our part?

Joel Sherman raised the possibility.

have a good friend who's a yankees fan who as always pulled for the cubs on my behalf. at least now I'll have a player on his team I can genuinely root for.

I've got to say, I wasn't huge on the idea of adding Zobrist, assuming it meant that we would then be out on Heyward. And, I would still love to have both. Add both of them and I'm just gaga over this offense. My preference is clearly and unequivocally to throw all of our money at Heyward, though. And, Zobrist scares me on a four-year deal.

However, when taken as a whole -- signing Zobrist and trading Castro for young guys or pitching depth -- you are essentially throwing money around to upgrade from Starlin to a guy who fits our organizational philosophy much more (versatile, takes walks) and adding depth in one way or another, with our return for Starlin. It makes sense and might just be the best use of our resources. This takes care of a couple of things in one fell swoop.

Depends on what we get for Castro. We still need a CF and possibly a SP and we still have a shaky OF with Schwarber and Soler.

I've never completely lost confidence that Starlin would become the player we all hoped he would become. I came close in the first half last year, but I was feeling really optimistic towards the end. This is kind of depressing, even if my rational mind believes it to be for the best. Edited by XZero77
