I really didn't think they'd move him. But Dombrowski certainly has no issues moving youngsters. He seems like a hard guy to place a value on though.

What's the system equivalent to JR Murphy?

Villanueva?

La Stella is probably the closest, but he's at the opposite end of the defensive spectrum so it's not a perfect comparison.

Also JBJ is pretty clearly better than Hicks, at the very least they are not equivalent in trade value.

I'd definitely be interested if the price was right, but he's really just a platoon player/defensive sub. We'd need to find a RH platoon partner, bring back Jackson?. I'd imagine a Bradley/Jackson platoon in CF would yield an overall positive WAR for the year, though it would be weighted heavily on defense.

I'd love to get Bradley but I just don't see a trade fit with the Red Sox.

Maybe we can get a Backtobanks three-way trade special?

He's certainly a great defender, but I think the Sox may overrate him and ask too much. The sample size is too small to have any idea what kind of offensive numbers he can put up.

I wonder if this is just a desire to acquire a guy they've always liked or if they're purposely pursuing great gloves to run down all the fly balls.

We need guys who can catch the ball and also need to get more left handed.

I'd love Jackie Bradley. Not sure what the Cubs have that the Red Sox would want. He seems like a good 2nd piece to get a starting pitcher. Unless the Red Sox want a prospect for him, I don't see a way the Cubs can reasonably make this happen.

Somebody brought up Ben Revere's name in MLBTR chat today and the moderator suggested Revere for Hendricks. Not a blockbuster, but it would give us a CF for a couple of years. Thoughts?

This person does not properly value Kyle Hendricks.

Or overvalues Ben Revere.

Drastically. The Cubs need pitching, they shouldn't be considering trading Hendricks for a mediocre OF.

The should be if they have one of the best 1-2 punches in baseball in Arrieta-Lester, a 1st half ace-second half serviceable back end guy in Hammel, and the desire and ability to acquire multiple front end starters, as well as a pitching coach with the uncanny ability to turn trash into gold, or at least high-quality copper.

B2B trades were based mainly on the fact that we had few prospects with any real value, and couldn't afford to part with the ones we had. No need for that type of straw grasping anymore. And it feels good.

Sounds more like a desire to save $10-15MM on CF to put toward starting pitching.

no, they shouldn't under any circumstance, be considering trading hendricks for a mediocre OF.

Bradley looks like he has reverse splits.

.307/.390/.528 vs lefties

.221/.308/.483 vs righties

That's pretty interesting because I recall from his college playing days that he was pretty good against both, hitting for both average and power. He was an extremely likeable kid when he played for the Gamecocks and a clear fan favorite. Certainly would not be a clubhouse problem sort of player.

I miss B2B trade proposals. Despite the fact that many on here ridiculed them, they were entertaining to consider. Regardless of how realistic they were.
