I think I read somewhere the Pirates were going total defense and small ball for this game. Saying we might see them doing alot of bunting guys over and trying to squeeze them in since it figures to be low scoring and with Jake on the mound they will take anything they can get

Nothing like changing the entire way your team plays the game for #163.

I understand it. This is one game in (I believe) a pitchers park going against a starter who is in a historically dominant run. I mean the last time the Pirates faced Jake it was a 2 hit shutout and he's dominated them all year. At some point you need to try a new approach when you absolutely have to win a game against him. Plus they have a (slightly less but still very) dominant pitcher going, they are confident he can limit the Cubs offense and make this a really low scoring game.

But I also understand the Cubs offensive focus. You hope there is a little rust to start the game, try to jump on him early and then ride your God-mode pitcher to the NLDS.

Dammit I was really calm all day, felt like I wasn't excited enough but all the sudden the game stomach just hit me and I don't think its going away until 10pm at the earliest.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Do they have a cheer coach or maybe practice like that dumb [expletive] at that college in Texas?

I do feel that crowd chanting in baseball is a bit of an opportunity, but that is a very dumb way to go about implementing it.

I'm a little nervous.

I can't believe this is the Cubs' first playoff game since I was in high school. I was a junior back then. Now I'm in my second year of graduate school.

Im going to go nuts if we have like 3-5 warning track flyballs that go 395-409 feet that dont get out like we did that last series at PNC national forest

Wow. No Aramis or Alvarez for Pittsburgh?

Beyond the Box Score speculated that it would be better to keep alvarez on the bench since arrieta gives up so few home runs and alvarez' only real plus tool as a hitter is his power. plus his defense is beyond terrible and giving away runs when you're facing a guy who doesn't give up many runs is a big no-no.

Beer 1: finished.

Beer is a chaser, wimp.

I think of it as more of a warmup.

Off work at 4, warm up with a little smoke and a few beers, begin with the Jamesons around the first pitch. Nurse the hangover tomorrow.

Only bad thing is I have to watch this in a Red Sox bar.
