Just wanted to be in on this thread

Also, nice work on the cubs-o-lantern but be ready to carve out another one before Halloween because that thing won't make it to the end of the month (I learned this the hard way at a young age. I'm not sure why my parents didn't explain this to me beforehand).

I think Arrieta is going to be stellar tomorrow. Only thing that worries me is if Cole matches him and we end up tied late in the game and he has to come out and the bullpen blowing it. Im hoping right off the bat the Cubs grind out at bats and get the Coles pitch count up early. Also if they get guys on third with one out they really need to start converting and getting the run in since this looks like it will be a low scoring game.

I was thinking about going but the options to fly there and back from STL are completely horrid.

Well for you its win win. If they win you will see them in the NLDS, if they lose you wouldn't have wanted to be there anyways

I think La Stella at 3B and KB in LF is the right call against Cole.

Javy was born to not give a [expletive] in moments like these. Javy and Castro are going to rule all tomorrow.

What happened to #OurFeelingsMatter?

I think Cole having a long layoff is going to make him rusty. We need to do what the Astros are doing right now. Grab a two run lead or more by the fifth.

exactly. he's gone from a "silly kids mascot" (which truthfully never bothered me) to this maniac that takes the streets waving his flag like he doesn't give a [expletive].

Late to the convo, but I'm confused by the whole narrative about how this game could be at home had the Cubs started off with Bryant on the roster.

What would you choose?

A: Cubs host Wild Card game.

B: Cubs make Wild Card game, retain Bryant for an extra year.

If anything, the decision looks even better. And if you're going to go with the narrative, why not focus on the possibility the Cubs could have won the division?

I obviously choose B but the meatball arguing with you would probably say that you never know if you are going to get back there, point to Nationals, etc and probably think that home field makes a huge difference even though it's like a 54/46 advantage for the average team, and not considering that the road team had the best road record in the league this year.

But the biggest thing is that...the Cubs finished with 97 wins, the 3rd best record in baseball and a game behind the 2nd best. The Cubs are not playing a road wild card game because they didn't bring up Bryant right away...they are playing on the road in the wild card game because they had the misfortune of having the only 2 teams with better records than them happen to play in the same division.

I want another 3-0 away team wins score line tomorrow.

In fact, I'm picking a 3-0 away team win tomorrow night. Castro doubles in Bryant, Schwarber hits a dong after a Fowler single. Arrieta pitches 8 innings, 0 runs.

Damn, I'm so anxious. There will be very little sleep tonight and work tomorrow is going to be pointless. Fortunately I've taken off Friday and Tuesday from work (Monday being a holiday) so I'll be able to relax a little once the Cubs win and follow it up with a sweep of the Cards. :beg: :liturgy: :flythew:

The thing I love about this team is that in the second half, pretty much every series where I felt like it could have gone either way, the Cubs have come out with a bang.

Examples:

-big series in Pittsburgh coming off a 4 game sweep of the Brewers in early August, the Cubs score 3 runs in the first 3 innings and cruise to a 5-0 win

-first game of the Giants series, the biggest series of the season to that point, the Cubs jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead setting the tone for a huge weekend

-Although the road trip wasn't super successful, the Cubs start a big west coast trip in SF and jump out to a 8-0 lead and win

-Big series in St Louis and the matchup is Lynn vs Haren, Cubs score 8 runs in the first 3 innings

-the Cubs dropped the first in Pittsburgh but stormed back to win the next 3

-Cubs/Cards at Wrigley and the Cubs score 3 in the first en route to 8-3 win

I am hoping for another quick start tomorrow
