20! Give him the Cy Young,

1.65 ERA is really impressive though

kershaw is better than both of them

I just checked the numbers and holy moly I had no idea Kershaw had 11+ K/9, 272 Ks, and a FIP 70 points lower than Greinke.

If Jake gets the Cy Young he'd be robbing someone, but its also a silly arbitrary award that regularly goes to the best narrative and I think Jake has sealed that.

that's an average of 121+ pitches per game from august to october, including 125 per game over his last 9 starts, in a season where he was (a) 23 years old and (b) pitching 60 more innings than he had in any other season of his life. arrieta's season high in pitches (123) was tonight, meaning that prior threw more pitches in 6 of his last 9 starts of 2003 than arrieta has in any single outing in 2015.

get a grip, folks.

Remember almost exactly seven years ago when we came back from 4-0 bases empty with two outs in the ninth against Milwaukee

The game Soto tied with a 3 run hr? I was there!

I think the bigger issue is him throwing that many pitches when he doesn't have to AKA 4-run lead in the 9th. But yeah, in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal. And I do think the stress of the situation matters. Arrieta hasn't really had to throw 120 pitches in 1-run games while working out of multiple jams. I'm fine with the usage, just wish it didn't happen in games that seem to be in the bag.

Eh. I'm not as worried about Arrieta holding up as I was even a month ago considering how well he's been pitching and his velocity has increased from last season and even as this season has progressed. However, Arrieta, too, is about 60 innings over his career high and dealt with a shoulder injury just last season. He's in amazing shape, but that doesn't always prevent arm injuries. It's not as bad as how Prior was used, and I didn't even have much of a problem with the decision tonight, but I can certainly understand those who do.

I was too except I left with one out in the ninth to beat the crowd to the train. I finished watching it on tv.

I also left the cardinals game we came back from 8-0 in 03 right after jd drew hit the grand slam. Those are my two worst early departures.

Holly mixing in an anti sabr comment.

Good boy

What'd he say?

Something about sabr and stats watering down but 20 games mattering. Harmless for holly standards.

I had totally forgotten that he was the one who had that insane at bat against jobo that resulted in them either tying or taking the lead in game three
