Using Richard and Rodney to play matchups is not a bad move. Leaving Strop in(who was more unlucky than bad) would've been fine too, but Richard for Carpenter and Rodney for the rest is perfectly fine.

 

Not pinch hitting Bryant I don't really get unless there's some injury risk or he just promised Bryant he wouldn't use him today or something.
