What did he ever stumble over besides being adamant that Ricketts wasn't going to spend?

He was gung-ho on the entire idea of a rebuild and how Pujols was going to be old and broken down, and pretty much all of us yelled at him and told him how stupid that was, the Cubs obviously weren't going to do a rebuild.

Not that it means he wasn't being stupid, it's just funny in retrospect.

Kyle, as we sit here on August 20 with the fourth best record in baseball with a bunch of players, most very young, performing very well and who were acquired as a direct result of the tem being bad, you're still going to call the rebuild stupid? It was risky, as we got huge gifts from the Astros, Orioles, and Athletics and it certainly sucked to watch, but this is pretty sweet right now.

You haven't been harping on it lately, but you have to have softened your stance a little, right?

Won't for sure speak for him, but I don't think he has. I'm pretty sure he will talk about how long Theo hasn't made the playoffs and that some of these young guys might start to decline next season.

And that's OK. I don't at all agree, but respect the take even though he's wrong. Rather, even if.

Hm, my bad then. I read you calling that dave guy stupid after mentioning the rebuild as a comment on the rebuild. But either way, has your opinion changed at all?

Nope, one good season doesn't make up for three bad ones, and while there are some things to like about our future, it isn't the super magical unicorn train to 4 straight division titles.

Yeah I don't agree with him either but I definitely respect and appreciate that he has a differing opinion and isn't afraid to break through the groupthink.

As we continue to talk about Kyle like he isn't here...yeah, I think he's a good poster and I like to see what he has to say, that's why I was curious.

I will say this:

I think the best way to judge them in the entirety of their tenure will be how often they make the playoffs. If they get in once in 10 years and win it all, I'll be happy, but I don't think you can say the front office itself did a good job. If they have a 1990s Indians type run but never get through the playoffs, *shrug* it happens and not their fault.

Assuming they are going to be around for about 10 years, putting yourself in an 0-for-3 hole voluntarily* makes it unnecessarily difficult. Even if you can make yourself a favorite the other 7 years, all it takes is the wrong two elbows to feel a twinge and one year where you barely miss and you're basically average.

Making it this year makes a big difference in their odds of getting to 5 or 6 out of 10, which I think is a good minimum standard for praiseworthiness. 4 out of 10 in a league where 33% make it isn't bad, but it's not living up to the hype. So their success this year is definitely not immaterial.

* - Well, sort of. I think when they took over in late 2011, they thought they'd have a good chance at scraping together a decent team in 2013-14 with mid-tier signings. They didn't spend $100m or whatever in the 2012-13 offseason for flip value or for funsies.

Braves post-game: umpiring was a key to the game. This was one of those unfortunate games where the umpiring had s little too much to do with the outcome. Spent a full 90 seconds complaining about umpiring before giving rizzo "credit where credit is due."

That would never happen somewhere like here.

Jake Arrieta leads MLB in wins. Obviously a pointless stat but still pretty neat.

I knew roughly what his fWAR was but I had no clue whatsoever how many wins he had until just now. That's kinda funny, the sport has come a long way.

But this is a fan forum, not a professional television broadcast.

Somewhere like here isn't full of people who get paid actual money to analyze baseball, so it's okay when we complain with our fan biases or compare Schwarber to Babe Ruth. (Oh yeah, these guys are also saying Foltynewicz = young Nolan Ryan.)

Did Nolan Ryan ever have as flat of a fastball as Foltynwicz's? 99 doesn't mean much if it's as straight as a clothesline.
