He did what you cry about Theo not doing. He took a risk and traded top prospects for a chance to win and lost.

Honestly, I think he basically had to go all in last year as the window was really short and they were definitely the best team in baseball last year. Didn't end up working out in the end but it wasn't the wrong play at the time.

Nobody was expecting that offense like it did. What a debacle; but hey, he went for it.

Beane also could've done a lot better for Samardzija and Donaldson in the offseason, though Barreto looks like he could be really good.

No. People "crying" about Theo not trading prospects are crying about people like you not wanting to trade run-of-the-mill prospects. Addison Russell was pretty much a consensus Top-5 or so prospect in all of baseball when we acquired him. Also people were "crying" about Theo not really doing anything at all. Nobody was begging to trade any prospects that were in the top 3 of baseball, mainly because we didn't have any.

Haha I'm usually on the other side of Kyle on this but nowhere did I see him advocate trading a top 5 in baseball prospect and last year's 1st round pick for a 1.5 years of Jeff samardzija and 2 months of hammel

I pretty specifically said I don't want the Cubs trading top prospects at the trade deadline.

I think he was a Super 2 guy with 4 years of arbitration. He has three more years of control after this, though.

I thought that was a worse trade than the Russell deal. I assume he always intended to flip Samardijza after the half season to recoup some long-term value. Now watch Barretto will go on to be a stud.

I think he was a Super 2 guy with 4 years of arbitration. He has three more years of control after this, though.

I like Russell a lot, but is anyone concerned about his arm strength at shortstop?

I assumed he was an old poster under a new name. I don't know why, they just always are.

Somewhat new. Found the board a few years ago and lurked for awhile. Then I started posting last year. Had a few issues with work and family that kept me pretty busy and off the board for awhile. But, I like it and think I'll stick around.
