  1. The heck? All I can say is Octoberfest, Wine and then Balvenie when it ended....
  2. Think about the talent we gave up to go for it this year and stick with Russell and Baez - we may have had better talent in the minors we traded away.
  3. If we’re being honest, this team doesn't need Joe to get to the play-offs. We need someone who knows how to manage the roster in short series match ups. I don’t believe Joe Madden is going to change at this point in his career. The front office must see the flaws and the window isn't open forever. Each post season is literally priceless. You can’t fire the team, but you can fire an incompetent manager. We won the WS in spite of Joe Madden. Are we really going to deal with this for the next five years?
  4. Amazing, and good for us, that Dusty Baker hasn't learned a thing about managing pitchers over the last 15yrs. "The NLDS is an extremely short series and could turn on any number of things. But it’s worth remembering going into it that Dusty Baker has spent the entire season doing Dusty Baker things. If any of those starting pitcher workloads come home to roost, that means there could be a key moment in a playoff game where Cubs hitters get to face Joe Blanton or Oliver Perez." http://wrigleyville.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2017/10/05/dusty-proofing-the-nationals/
  5. :flythew: :flythew: :flythew: :flythew: These are the best of times.... enjoy the ride my friends!
  6. What's the Cubs record when the temperature is below 50 degrees? (BTW, I'm kidding. Bad attempt at humor). 2-3 wins in Chicago, put the pressure on the Mets and their overused arms. I'm still confident. :beg:
  7. TBS hired Brian Urlacher for this game? Loyal fans in NYC. Lots of empty seats, NLCS happens every year??
  8. Slightly above league average at 31% while the league is at 30.5. Thanks! 20-40 mph WSW winds in the forecast. Recipe for a crazy game tomorrow?
  9. The weather forecast for Monday is pretty interesting. Is Wacha a fly ball pitcher?
  10. At least we held onto those precious prospects We didn't need to make a big move, we just needed to not acquire someone whose numbers basically SCREAMED "I am about to get crushed into oblivion and you would be [expletive] morons to give me important innings" I'll never understand these obviously crappy deals from the Theo/Hoyer braintrust. Haren isn't the first. Factoring in the amazing transformation of the farm system and some decent to outstanding trades, how do you go get Haren or sign E. Jackson etc. etc. ? A blindspot to a certain veteran profile?
  11. I want to believe that there was some next-level thinking behind it that we don't understand, but I think he just tilted and made a mistake. I like Russell a lot, but is anyone concerned about his arm strength at shortstop?
  12. This will be known as the Soler series.
  13. Can you elaborate? Any details, why Chicago? 7yr deal?
  14. PLEASE POST MORE. I'm carefully cultivating my four-posts-per-year average. I'm even more stingy at 1/2 a post a year. The 1% here is 4 people.
  15. Welcome to the board! They reported on the Score this morning that Bush was let go with a one year severance, but then later said that the Cubs had called and stated that he would actually be staying with the team through this season. They were going to try to get clarification as to what his role would be moving forward. Thank you for the clarification Laura. I suppose any official news would have to come after tonight's WS game.
  16. I thought I heard this morning that Bush has been let go w/severance. Not a big surprise.
  17. Plenty of valid arguments from both sides on this fiasco. Does anyone on this board really believe we would get two healthy-productive years out of Mr. Bradley playing in right field?
  18. True it is only a few games, but over the last few weeks a trend as developed. Is it coincidence we started playing lackluster ball after Lou made decided to start Jones in CF and Hendry brought in yet another poor defensive catcher? I need to look up the actual line ups and playing time during the winning streak after June 3rd. For the most part we had a better defensive line up with Bowen/Hill catching and Pie/Pagan in Center. True we didn't get any offense out of those players, yet the Cubs won a lot of games....and scored runs. Then the Hendry/Piniella tinkering began (again) and it looks like the return of the April/May losing squad. Kendall is Barrett all over again and Jones is Jones. Without power, I don't see how Jones adds any value to a major league team. I know on most of these points I am preaching to the choir. Is there an easy way to look up the starting line up with the best winning % starting June 3rd to present?
