I very much agree, and didn't want to give the impression I don't think defense matters.

 

I still don't know what defensive stats to really trust though, and I know we've come a long way but there's still wildly different results that come in from BR to Fangraphs to this day. If you (or anyone else really) has dependable stuff to look at I'm eager to read up on them!

 

Aramis was graded at bad, average, or solidly above average between various stats and scouts.

i kinda just try to see what the eye test says, vs BR's' stuff, vs. fangraphs/UZR and look for consensus...sometimes that's hard to do

i am always thinking about this too, which i agree is dumb. .500 isn't some magic cruise control number we can just set and not worry about, but i'm always excited when .500 the rest of the way is a decent result.
