And let's keep the Price suggestions in perspective here. Last year, with a year and a half remaining on his contract, the Price deal was basically...

Austin Jackson

Willy Adames

Drew Smyly

for

David Price

Jackson went to Seattle, and Tampa picked up Nick Franklin in the deal, too. So Tampa took Adames, Smyly, and Franklin for a year and a half of Price. And Detroit lost Jackson, Adames, and Smyly.

That's not a huge price to pay for David Price, and that was a year ago. It should take LESS than that now. Not more.

The going price won't be anywhere near one very good prospect and a bag full of crap?

Trying to remember if this is the first example of you going full heel turn on Starlin.

I got there about a month ago.

The Cubs are a year away from serious playoff contention/run. I wouldn't trade anything right now. Price isn't going to help the Cubs win the division this year.

Next season is the year I think. Sure they could get in this year but I think the young guys need a full season in the majors to really shine so there is no need to trade a bunch of prospects for a rental guy.

Unless the Cubs can fleece the Tigers which I doubt will happen.

I agree. Why continue to lead the race for the 2nd wildcard and get into the playoffs this year, when you can get into the playoff NEXT year?!?!?!?

No.

Next season is the year I think.

There is no "the year." Every year that you are in playoff contention is an opportunity to win a championship and needs to be treated as such. Hopefully, this year is the first of many of those, and there is good reason to believe so.

They are significantly more likely than not to get in this year. If you think the team is weaker this year than it will be, it would seem to make even more sense to strengthen the team, if possible.

And who said anything about need? It's an opportunity, not a need. We have valuable prospect depth that we might not even have room for and we have it expressly for situations like this one. Some of them have rule 5 concerns after this season, too.

Castro is a dump of salary and McKinney has no place on the cubs... he cant play CF.

He can play LF, where at the moment we do not have a long term option. Sure Bryant or Schwarber could end up there, but right now they aren't, and as such MCKinney profiles as our future LF'er until Bryant and Schwarber prove they are disasters at their current positions

i think it can reasonably inferred McKinney very much has a long-term role on the team

the FO doesn't really appear to have a lot of love for players with poor approaches; we've seen repeated rumors of Castro, Baez being dangled in trade discussions, while Castillo and Alcantara have already been exiled, whereas they're actively acquiring anybody that makes opposing pitchers work: Montero, Fowler, LaStella (delayed promotions for Edwards is also another indicator of this attitude)

if the "90% of the game is controlling the strike zone" refrain Theo's championed is reflective of their true beliefs, McKinney is nearly untouchable (given his presumably underwhelming trade value to other orgs)

I'm skeptical. I think I'll take WSR's advice and wait on the confrontation he's alive.

You don't deserve a good team.

What is that supposed to mean?

The Cubs are literally in the [expletive] playoffs right now, so saying 'they're a year away' is utterly ludicrous. That's what it means.

That they're in serious playoff contention right this damn minute and you aren't appreciating it.

That's odd that someone can assume that over one post on the internet.

Stranger things have happened I suppose.

LOL well when the cubs get the 2nd wild card and the kids experience the post season (rizzo included) for the first time they will be THAT much more prepared to own the NL for the rest of the decade.

Doesn't take much of a leap to conclude that from you saying that they're a year away from serious playoff contention when they are actually currently in serious playoff contention and have been for an extended period of time now.

Personally, I want the Cubs to sell this week. Trade Hammel, Fowler, Montero and anyone else who isn't under 25 and under team control for 10 years.

I think next season they can contend for the division which isn't happening this year due to the Cardinals having an amazing season. Sure the playoffs are open season but I fully think next year the Cubs will be a force mainly due to the experience guys will get. I think they can make the playoffs this season without David Price or even Cole Hammels and I'm not keen on giving up prospects.

That's where I stand. This season has been fun as hell and I think everything is looking up for the future. They have a great manager and guys who have talent and I love what Theo has done to rebuild.

I'm 100% on board with this line of thinking.

i wish we'd go on like a 5-6 game win streak so we could still see people saying stuff about how this is a bonus year and they are a year away from actually being good while being on pace for over 90 wins in late july
