I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but can someone confirm, if Edwin refuses assignment and becomes a FA, is he still owed the rest of his contract?

Yes, except I believe we save like the $300,000 that somebody else signs him for.

Yes, there's a service time accural that allows you to refuse and keep your contract. 3 years maybe? Whatever it is, Jackson is well past it.

I'm still perplexed as to why he turned into a pumpkin as soon as he signed with the Cubs. Oh well, glad to see this problem resolved.

I hope this doesn't turn into another shameful Hawkins situation where he gets [expletive] on by the fans every time he visits with another team.

1. To be fair, he was a pumpkin several other times during his career before he signed.

2. I don't think he will, simply because the Cubs sucked bad during his tenure and so he just sort of blended in. Meanwhile, he never said or did anything wrong. But who knows?

He was worth 12 fWAR over the four years prior to his signing. He had been inconsistent, but his descent into total and complete suckitude was not a likely development.

And apparently he was very popular in the clubhouse, though that doesn't help the W/L record much. It'll be nice to have a useful player in that roster spot, but I have no ill will for EJax.

Is a helluva bullpen on paper. Not a weak spot if Wood continues to pitch like he has since leaving the rotation.

These are the times that numbers can really confuse me. Because in all the years I watched Jackson pitch, he was good at times, but like you said, inconsistent. And teams always got on base against him. And he just.........yeah, I don't know. He was just an OK pitcher but nothing exciting. But maybe the deeper numbers prove I'm wrong.

Where is the 40-man roster at right now?

A full 40.

Seeing the quotes from Jackson and the players who liked him so much is making this less enjoyable.

Yeah. I wanted to be rid of him as much as anyone but I respect that he took his demotion in stride. I can't remember seeing anything about him being unhappy this year or causing any problems at all. I think the from Rizzo and Hammel in the ESPN piece speaks to that.
