Definitely should lose some draft picks if this is true

Pretty blatant cheating and breaking the law.

But if this is just one or two guys that decided to check if old passwords worked...won't it just end up with them fired/charged, and the Cardinals pay a fine or something? At first glance it looks like there wasn't so much of a competitive advantage gained. I'll be happy to be proven wrong.

Having their scouting info and internal trade discussions could be a huge competitive advantage.

I'm going to set the over/under for punishment from MLB at nothing.

Yep. I can see this being put on individuals rather than the team.

Jeff Luhnow is hurriedly changing all of his passwords from GMLuhnow1 to GMLuhnow2, just to be extra safe.

I'm imagining all the Houston scouts being forced to set up two-factor auth and I am dead from mirth.

Under. MLB will force the rest of the teams to give the Cardinals all their passwords to make it fair for everybody.

I don't really care about this from a 'I think STL benefited competitively' standpoint, but God is it [expletive] hilarious.

Draft picks? This is federal prison time we're talking about for those involved, if true.

Please let it have been a hacking party where the entire organization, ownership and many St Louis community leaders all gathered together to join in the fun.

This is a massive story. You have members of the Cardinals Front Office hacking passwords based on previous Luhnow passwords with Stl. The amount of effort to do so to hack into their database and then to publicly leak that info.

This is far far worse than anything the Patriots did, not even including the federal violations.

I doubt the punishment will equal the crime.

this only further cements my certainty that they are doing some high level cheating over there

culture of cheating from top to bottom

Them being filthy cheaters does explain why every crappy player goes on to be successful once they join the Cardinals organization.

I mean to to try and way over speculate on this whole thing.... having scouting reports from another team(s) on your players can't hurt to help them perform above expectations continually. Though with the turnover/inclusiveness within MLB and having your own scouts/evaluation guys I'm guessing it's not hard to get an idea on what other teams are trying to do or not do against your players without breaking federal laws.

This means whenever a BFIB states a Cardinal achievement, I get to put "by cheating" at the end of it.

Hopefully every member of the Cardinals front office receives a lifetime ban from baseball. That sounds about right to me.
