This no-power-lost, no-leg-kick version of Javy is...very, very encouraging, possibly even sexy.

yes even more reason to make me hope and dream they do something with starlin, but how do you bench your "franchise" shortstop / veteran?

if they cant trade him im a fan of the "hey dude you just got hurt go hang with your kids for a while" 60 day dl

Interesting. Because to me, I'd think it would be even more insulting to ask Castro to fake an injury and watch the rest of the season from home rather than telling him he no longer is starting every day but still will be counted on to help the team.

But maybe that's just me.

Maybe it's just me, but to me, in my opinion, this makes sense.

I really hope it's no, but given the lack of any movement at all to this point I have no idea whether our FO is going to start chucking rocks into the pond at reckless abandon in the next 48 hours or is going to maintain its placid disposition.

So yes or no? Baez will be traded by Friday.

I say yes, even though I hope it's no. But I'm also probably wrong for being scared that Baez will be a beast. Even though he so seems like he could be.

definitive no, i think Hamels was the only shot at that

I defer because I honestly don't know at this point, but who has more trade value-Castro or Baez?

Baez, I would guess. Though it probably just depends on the team; there could be a few who prefer Castro and think he is a quick fix/change of scenery away from being his mid-700s OPS self, while Baez has obviously never proven that.

Castro doesn't really have trade value at this point.

What's the realistic role for Javy once he comes up? As much as I'd like to just see him slotted in at 2B full time this season, I don't see it happening.....

My guess is we'll get each of Javy, Addison, and Starlin start 2 of every 3 games. With all 3 starting on days KB gets off.

Any other ideas?

Everyone sits 1 day a week.

Day 1- Coghlan/Denorfia- LF, Fowler- CF, Soler- RF, Bryant- 3B, Castro-SS, Russell-2B

Day 2- Bryant- LF, Fowler-CF, Soler-RF, Baez-3B, Castro-SS, Russell-2B

Day 3- Coghlan/Bryant-LF, Denofia/Bryant-CF, Soler-RF, Baez-3B, Castro-SS, Russell-2B

Day 4- Bryant- LF, Fowler-CF, Coghlan/Denorfia-RF, Baez-3B, Castro-SS, Russell-2B

Day 5- Coghlan/Denorfia- LF, Fowler- CF, Soler- RF, Baez-3B, Castro-SS, Russell-2B

Day 6- Coghlan/Denorfia- LF, Fowler- CF, Soler- RF, Bryant- 3B, Russell-SS, Baez-2B

Day 7- Coghlan/Denorfia- LF, Fowler- CF, Soler- RF, Bryant- 3B, Castro-SS, Baez-2B

Or just go with the Day 6 lineup everyday. Of course, doesn't take into account Schwarber playing LF at some point. Either way, it's a good problem to have, with the Cubs going into so many offensive lulls this year. It's a great problem if everyone hits.

Doesn't he pretty much have to? Castro stinks and Bryant's been scuffling for a while; it sure would be nice to see if he can inject some additional offensive life as we're seeing some of the other bats come around.

I think they'll give him another week at least to see how he fares. One big game back from injury isn't enough to pull the trigger on that. Need to see him continue to hit decently enough. Only hitting .167 in the other three games he's had since he's been back.

We're all now positive that Baez is coming back up soon?

If you look at my post in the roster thread, the Cubs have to add Richard to the 40 and 25 man rosters for tomorrow's start. If they do so, the most logical candidate to send down in the 3rd C (Teagarden). But then they'll call up a bat the next day (Richard DFA'd this time for good). It can't be Teagarden again unless there is an injury, he has to be down 10 days. Baez is the most logical/ready/helpful choice to come up on Monday.

i guess that's what i'm asking - is he really ready & helpful? 7 Ks in his last 4 games isn't a great sign.

If they wait for a period where he's not striking out a ton then they might as well never bring him up at all. Even if he does click and pan out he's going to be a ridiculous hack machine.

i'd be surprised if he didn't get the call in september... there's the potential upside of incremental improvement over castro's offensive production and then you have the ability to move baez all over the infield- we know maddon's affinity for javy's defense.

also gives the opportunity to give guys like bryant and russell a day or two off during the stretch run, to the extent it makes sense.

Has Baez been starting at 2B at all recently?

Not sure, but I know a report came out in the last few days that they were going to have him play a bunch of different positions.
