lol as in kyrie is better than everyone on the bulls?

Yes. Is that crazy? He's got to have at least a little edge on 2015 Rose. Butler is more debatable...

Yeah, that's certainly not lol worthy.

The Bulls have 2 players who had higher PERs (admittedly slightly - but that's really besides the point) than Irving this year and, as a bonus, a 3rd who is a former superstar who has at times looked like himself (incidentally, very much so when matched up with Kyrie - SSS obviously but it's at least somewhat relevant) and at times looked like [expletive] while coming off an almost full 3 year layoff. So yes, declaring Kyrie better than anybody on the Bulls is pretty laughable.

I think if the Bulls win tomorrow night, they'll win the series. If not, it's a tossup. Pretty simple, really.

As far as the Thibs article goes, pretty crappy timing. If you just casually follow the Bulls, you know that he's most likely not going to be here next year. To continue to focus on that after the Bulls biggest win in a few years kind of sucks. The thing that I don't get about the whole situation is why exactly does GarPax have an issue with Thibs? Is he really that much of an [expletive]? Not one player has ever had a bad thing to say about him, which is pretty impressive considering he's going to get fired/traded/whatever you want to call it in the offseason.

I just hope that Gar is held accountable if/when Hoiberg, or whoever the new guy is, fails.

it's gotta just be the whole minutes struggle thing and whatever hostility comes with that, right?

Fine. Butler and Gasol bested him in WS/48 too.

Butler has him in VORP with 4.2 but Irving edges Pau out 3.7 to 3.2. VORP is normalized to 100 possessions.

Do you like WS enough to quibble over .004 WS/48? Because if it's that precise the Bulls also have by far the best player in the series.

The point is that when the Bulls have two players who performed arguably as well or better this season and another who has shown the ability to match or exceed that performance level in the past, it's pretty ridiculous and disingenuous to attempt to declare superiority by hanging their hats on having the "two best players" in the series.

Wouldn't it in turn be disingenuous to consider the idea laughable?

I understand where you're going here but I was honestly laughing more at that being their case for why the team down 1-0 who already lost a home game will prevail than the notion that Kyrie might be marginally/arguably better than those guys.

If you asked me to rank those players, I'd say it's Lebron, Butler, Irving, Gasol, Rose...with the caveat that Rose can still pull magic out of his ass when he feels good/wants to/whatever it is at this point.

God I can't believe I'm aligning myself with SSR right now.

I'd probably give Kyrie the edge over Gasol pretty easily (age a factor), and I'd probably give him the narrowest of edges over Butler. But the Bulls probably easily have players 3-6 or more in this series.

I think it's almost entirely the minutes thing, which just baffles me considering there hasn't been an injury issue that wasn't explained at least as well and probably better by inept medical staffs (Deng), the fact that a player is tall and tall people have foot problems (Noah), or just plain weird [expletive] happening (Rose). And in the latter case, Rose was beat up all year that season and didn't play many minutes.

Age is a factor in their actual value, sure, but Gasol was a more efficient/productive player by some actual measures and at least comparable by others this year at this age.

Very much disagree with giving him an edge over Butler, but w/e. It's not a crazy opinion. I'm just really high on what buckets has become.

How the [expletive] does anyone think Kyrie is a better player than Butler? Defense counts right?

Because Kyrie is a league mandated superstar, was the number 1 pick, is a little flashier, and LeBron chose to play with him so he must be awesome.

Jimmy is like an upstart...last pick of the first round, spent his first 3 years as a 3D guy, wasn't ever expected to be a star by the general public until this year, and is only now starting to change the perception. People recognize him as good, but it will take some time to be considered great. The crazy thing about Butler is that he started the year on a tear, and I think he's actually gotten better at the end of the season. At midseason I thought he was a star but not going to be the kind of star you feed the ball to down the stretch to make things happen...but its happened multiple times this playoffs, alternating with Rose, and he's delivered.

Who's the last player of star caliber to emerge kinda out of nowhere like Butler has? I'm sure there's an obvious answer starting me in the face.

Kawhi Leonard?

Marc Gasol maybe?

Obvious one that comes to mind that isn't very recent is Arenas.

Marc Gasol is a good one. He was always a project with upside, but I don't think the Lakers had any idea he would become an all-star when he was included as a throw in for Pau Gasol.

I don't think Leonard or Arenas count, at least with how I'm interpreting the question as a player who had been in the NBA a few years and was clearly not thought of as an all-star or had the ability to become an all-star, suddenly becoming one.

Klay what's his face in Golden State?

You get his first name spelled correctly but you can't remember the very common last name part?
