Though still nightmarish in the field.

What the [expletive] happened there.

It'll be ok. Much like Schwarber, he is very new to the outfield...

Maybe he'll make me eat these words and it'll be Jake Arrieta or Jeff Samardzija all over again, but Soler looks like one of the most overrated Cubs assets I've seen in a long time.

He's a total tire fire defensively, he's going to be 24 next Opening Day, and he's coming off a 0.1 fWAR in 404 PA season, and he needed an unsustainable BABIP to get there. Throw in the playoffs and he's at maybe 0.3 fWAR.

He looks really pretty standing in the batter's box, I guess.

Yes, we all know he was bad this year, had a high BABIP, and was really bad on defense.

What the hell is the point of this post?

His approach went through streaks and he'll likely always be injury prone. If he concentrates on getting more lift in his swing and shows the discipline he showed in the post-season, he'll be a 3-4 WAR type player.

That I think he's really, really overrated because of how he looks.

Who the [expletive] thinks soler is good, god we're three days into the offseason and you're already an insufferable idiot again

i consider myself firmly in the soler apologist camp. if he has another season like the last, then i'll bail publicly. but you better believe that i'll be the insufferable one when he puts together a beast of a season in miami or wherever

Yeah, he had a mediocre year for sure, but I wouldn't feel good at all if he were traded this offseason. Like you, I want to see Soler get one more season before I give up on him.

Eventually this will stop being a thing but hasn't Soler had like 1,200 PA total in the last 5 years? Yes he's 24 but I would think he is still developing as a player.

i mean is there any question at this point that kyle just doesn't like black people and wants them to fail?

Kyle underrates him because of how he looks

Hey now, kyle is an equal opportunity hater. He hates players of all races, genders and religious beliefs.

I actually agree with Kyle's point that Soler is overrated because of how he looks. I also don't lose much sleep over it because the Cubs aren't poor and don't need him to become a star, let alone superstar. It'd be nice, but this is Kris Bryant's house for the next half decade+ and everyone else is just living in it.

I think many people range between mildly and wildly optimistic about Soler because he has stretches where he looks like he's pretty much God's gift to baseball.

Except that he never looks comfortable in the field.

Or when the temperature dips below 60.
