The Cubs could wait until Friday morning before electing to promote Bryant, who then would not be eligible for free agency until after the 2012 season.

 

Man I do NOT understand baseball rules at all.....

Whether the game was being aired in San Diego was somewhere around nowhere on the list of reasons to call up Bryant.

In terms of overall buildup, hype and media attention, I can't recall a more highly anticipated Cubs prospect debut. Most of that is Bryant himself, but the service time issue has increased the exposure.

 

And many see him as being one of the (if not the biggest) finishing touches on the long and highly publicized rebuild.
