some great tweets coming out about how horrible Bruce Allen is.

Yeah, that's been entertaining this morning. If ever I feel bad about the Bears, I just need to look at the Redskins.

Doug Marrone opted out of his contract in Buffalo.

Seems like a crazy decision. I think he's done a good job in Buffalo, but not good enough that he's going to be a hot commodity. I'd say he'll get interest, but seems like there's a high probability he doesn't get another NFL job. There had to be something going on behind the scenes there (the Manuel thing is evidence of that too, I guess).

Rumors of Marrone to Jets already started.

I think he's as good as anybody available, honestly. Especially since some of the names the Raiders are interested in include Eric Mangini and Pat Shurmur.

Marrone's opt-out, which was apparently triggered by the ownership change, guarantees him his 2015 pay of $4 million without any offset for his next job. I'd argue the crazy move is not to opt out if you have that kind of clause.

Wow, did not know that. Makes a whole lot more sense to opt out then.

I don't know, I still don't think he opts out without an equivalent job (even college possibly). As long as you're a HC you have a chance to keep your future resume very relevant.

Yeah, he knows he'll get a job. No way he left without at least some feelers out there. Jets is probably going to happen, assuming they get a GM he can work with.

Packers have promoted Eliot Wolf to director of player personnel.

What was he before?

Update: Eliot Wolf was promoted to director of player personnel on January 2, 2015.

Eliot Wolf enters his 11th season with the Packers and third as the director of pro personnel after being promoted on May 23, 2012. Prior to his current role, Wolf spent the 2011 season as the team’s assistant director of player personnel and the previous three seasons as assistant director of pro personnel (2008-2010).

He went from Director of Pro Personnel to Director of Player Personnel and I assume the difference involves the level of involvement/responsibility with the college scouting/draft portion of the job.

Yea I imagine the college scouting director and pro personnel both report directly to player personnel in most set ups.

Eagles' announcement: Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie today announced a new structural change for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Howie Roseman will be elevated to the role of Executive Vice President of Football Operations and will continue directing contract negotiations, salary cap management, and NFL strategic matters, while overseeing the team’s medical staff, equipment staff and more.

Head coach Chip Kelly will now oversee the player personnel department. He will also lead efforts to hire a new personnel executive – a process that will begin immediately.

“We are a good football team and we believe these steps will help make us a great team," said Lurie. "That step - from good to great - is the most difficult one for any organization to make. To do that, sometimes you have to step back and really look hard at where you are today and what you want to become."

Roseman has been with the Eagles for 16 years in a variety of roles - as general manager since 2010.

“Philadelphia is my home and the Eagles are my family. My number one goal is to help bring a championship to this city and that will never change," said Roseman. "I believe this will solidify the trust we have all placed in Coach Kelly."

Kelly, who was hired as the Eagles head coach in 2013, has had two ten-win seasons.

“I am very confident about where we are headed as a team and as an organization. I look forward to continue working with Jeffrey and Howie as well as the personnel department," said Kelly.

“This is not a one-man operation,” added Kelly. “It will truly take a team effort to acquire and develop the best football players and then put the best team on the field each week. It will take all of us working together."
