Same. If that actually happens, I'm a Chargers fan.

Probably been said here before, but:

dan durkin @djdurkin

As it stands, the #Bears have 51 players under contract for 2015, totaling $113.8M, that doesn't account for their $1.545M carryover credit.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter

NFL notified teams today that it expects this year's salary cap to be between $140 and $143 million, at least $1.5M higher than projected

Think big picture, guys. McCown for Cutler is committing to a Theo-style rebuild. Gotta lose to win.

Doesn't work like that in football.

Yes I'm aware that you will argue that it doesn't work like that in baseball either.

Just a thought: is there any chance whatsoever that they'd ask Cutler to restructure his deal and kick some of that money down the line? I realize the answer is probably no...just hoping I am missing something.

I am sure there is a chance they will ask. I am not sure what options they have for that now. I do not think the issue is cap space. If they are dumping him, then they aren't worrying about cap space.

That is like comparing apples to tire irons

I'm fairly certain they can restructure his deal to free up space without even asking him. They just restructure part of the guaranteed this year as a signing bonus and its spread across the next few years. But yea cap isn't a huge deal right now as is.

Just thinking that Cutler at 10 mill per year could more palatable because it allows you to potentially add an impact FA on defense or perhaps on the OL...

Some good stuff from Brad Biggs this morning....google search "10 thoughts on Bears from NFL combine" to get around the paywall.

He thinks Cutler still ends up as the starter for this season. Thinks McCown will be too much money for the Bears. Lots of thoughts about how the Bears might move players around in the 3-4, and that Briggs/Tillman are gone.

Zaidman has been suggesting that the non committal talk surrounding Cutler yesterday was just some gamesmanship for the draft...so that if Mariota slips to them, teams like the Browns or Eagles that might want him might actually believe they might take him, giving them a little bit of leverage.

But they will have had to have made a decision regarding Cutler long before the draft, no?

That doesn't make sense to me. If they keep Cutler past the March 12th date when most of his 2016 becomes guaranteed, then doesn't that nullify that leverage?

I think that's right, but I don't know a lot about these rules so I didn't question it immediately when I heard it.

Haugh? David Haugh? Is that you?

Not sure openly considering Josh McCown as a viable starting quarterback was a good way for Pace to start earning it.

Blame bad talent on the Bucs but you can't ignore that, too often, McCown gave Lovie Smith flashbacks of Craig Krenzel.

Nothing McCown did during a disastrous 2014 made him worthy of the attention the Bears quickly paid him after his release. As former Bears general manager Jerry Angelo told me on CSN Chicago: "He's done.''

Yet it only takes one GM to disagree and, alarmingly, that could be Pace, who raised eyebrows Wednesday addressing whether he considered McCown a backup or a starter at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.
