Week 12: Bears (4-6) vs. LSB (2-8) Noon FOX/780

Posted (edited)

Ahhh the Lovie Smith bowl. Bears open as 6 point favorites.

Let's get a win and move to 5-6 to at least make the Thanksgiving game against the Lions somewhat interesting.

Also with 2 Thursday games and a Monday game upcoming, this is the last Sunday game until Week 16

McCown isn't a great QB, but he doesn't need to be micromanaged on every throw like Bridgewater. I'm hoping he doesn't have too much time and our dline doesn't let up.

There will be a TB touchdown scored by them picking up a non-dead ball and running away untouched.

Lovie may be the only coach that preaches that style of pick it up and go no matter how it got on the ground, and the Bears have given up more than one such play.

Hopefully the refs blow it dead.

Because I'm a glutton for punishment......

Path to the playoffs for the Bears:

- Beat Detroit twice

- Beat New Orleans

- Beat Dallas

- Green Bay beats Detroit in Week 17

- Philly sweeps Dallas

- Either SF or Seattle sweep the 2 games

Bears actually could lose vs. NO and still get in if NO wins the division and all the other things happen. They could lose to Dallas, but it would be helpful if Dallas then swept the Eagles. And they don't actually need ALL these to happen. Could get the final WC spot by virtue of beating Detroit and SF head-to-head or with a better conference record than Seattle.

Seattle has Arizona and SF twice, plus Philly and the Rams, who apparently only beats the best teams in the league.

Detroit has NE this week and ends with GB, in addition to the Bears twice.

SF has Seattle twice and Arizona once.

I found the Yahoo Playoff Scenario Generator....I don't think it's meant to work until after next week because Week 12 isn't on there, but I made a scenario where the Bears are the #1 seed and the Lions and Packers both miss the playoffs :)

Bears winning out against a NFC heavy schedule, including 2 vs. Detroit would set them up extremely well for tiebreakers. I have a scenario with 8 teams in NFC being 10-6 or better and Bears getting in (via tiebreaker over Dallas, Detroit, and Seattle). You could even flip a San Fran win to a loss and get the Bears the 5th seed.

It's gonna suck when we finish 8-8 and a 17th pick after beating Det twice and having a deciding week 17 game vs Min where we just crap the bed on 3 Cutler fumbles. GB wins the Super Bowl.

The way things are going, I think 8-7 will have you eliminated before week 17.

god how different do things look if we don't lose to the [expletive] bills and panthers, even with the spectacular losses.

Fate will find a way. Or if not, we'll also beat Dal and finish 9-7 after our crapping bed performance against Minn.

6-4 with those two huge losses would have us excited about making the playoffs but scared to death of potential matchups.

Ha, playing with this Yahoo generator it isn't even hard to put a scenario that gets a 10 loss team from the NFC South in. What a horrid division.

Take Winning% as the baseline. Change NO loses to Chi in Chi (cold weather and all). Then an upset of either Atl or Car @ NO puts a 10 loss team winning the division.

If you don't want to worry about the < 1% chance the Bears make the playoffs, here's a mock draft from Dan Kadar: http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2014/11/17/7232935/2015-nfl-mock-draft-jameis-winston-new-york-jets

The Bears take Landon Collins at 11. Shaq Thompson went 10th overall.

11. Chicago Bears: Landon Collins, S, Alabama

The Bears have tried and failed with several safeties, none of whom are as talented as Collins. While he's better at playing the run, he's athletic enough to cover well.

Yeah, don't worry about the playoffs. No Peanut plus a healthy Megatron will equal Detroit scoring 40+ on turkey day.

i'd obviously be ok with that, but since week 1 our highest offensive output has been 24 points so i'm not considering it a realistic possibility

Jay gets hurt next week vs TB. Things look dismal for Turkey day until Shea McClellin breaks Staffords collarbone. A simplified offense under Claussen puts up 31 and Bears pull off the divisional upset on the road. A 6-6 Bears look ahead to a 3-1 home/road schedule with only one seemingly tough game and a fresh QB controversy. My brother and I argue all Thanksgiving night whether Trestmans offense is "more suited" to Claussen.

Lmao.

I'm in anguish at the thought of Thanksgiving. All my friends and family who are not Bears fans get to sit around and [expletive] talk Cutler and Bears. Nicccceeee.

Be interesting to see how the Bears handle a pair of 6'5" WRs. I guess they see them everyday in practice, and with all the practice tape Trestman and Co. have been watching, the Bears should dominate. Mike Evans has been like the best player in football (non-QB division) for 2-3 weeks.

Somehow, this doesn't surprise. For several reasons.

15. You have absolutely no couth

Former Bronco quarterback Jay Cutler used to come sit at my bar and order appletinis and fruity shots like sex on the beach. He is apparently diabetic and the sugary drinks made him act crazy. He also ran up massive tabs and would tip zero.

So I guess a grown man ordering appletinis and sex on the beaches says you’re a confused manchild with no idea how to conduct yourself in public.

Matt Miller did an updated mock draft. He has the Bears taking Kentucky DE Bud Dupree at 12 (passing on Shaq Thompson): http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2269369-2015-nfl-mock-draft-matt-millers-latest-projections/page/13

The Pick: DE Bud Dupree, Kentucky

The Chicago Bears should look at the available players on the draft board, look at their own roster and draft the best defender available at one of the defensive positions. Defensive end, linebacker (inside and outside), cornerback and safety are all needs here. Add the best one you can get.

Kentucky's Alvin "Bud" Dupree is a monster off the edge, and unlike a lot of smaller edge players in the 2015 class he has the size, length and strength to play the end of the line in a 4-3 defense. Dupree and Willie Young as the bookends will give Chicago the pass rush they need—and the one they hoped to get when signing Jared Allen in free agency.

Dupree opposite Young might not be a fit for Mel Tucker's defense, but it would be a huge surprise if he's back running the defense in 2015.

I'd be worried about Dupree's ability to play 4-3 DE, just like I'm not sure Vic Beasley and Shane Ray can. Obviously all three are more athletic than Shea McClellin but I'm pretty nervous about tweeners who are better fits in a 3-4.
