Week 12: Bears (4-6) vs. LSB (2-8) Noon FOX/780

Matt Miller did an updated mock draft. He has the Bears taking Kentucky DE Bud Dupree at 12 (passing on Shaq Thompson): http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2269369-2015-nfl-mock-draft-matt-millers-latest-projections/page/13

The Pick: DE Bud Dupree, Kentucky

The Chicago Bears should look at the available players on the draft board, look at their own roster and draft the best defender available at one of the defensive positions. Defensive end, linebacker (inside and outside), cornerback and safety are all needs here. Add the best one you can get.

Kentucky's Alvin "Bud" Dupree is a monster off the edge, and unlike a lot of smaller edge players in the 2015 class he has the size, length and strength to play the end of the line in a 4-3 defense. Dupree and Willie Young as the bookends will give Chicago the pass rush they need—and the one they hoped to get when signing Jared Allen in free agency.

Dupree opposite Young might not be a fit for Mel Tucker's defense, but it would be a huge surprise if he's back running the defense in 2015.

I'd be worried about Dupree's ability to play 4-3 DE, just like I'm not sure Vic Beasley and Shane Ray can. Obviously all three are more athletic than Shea McClellin but I'm pretty nervous about tweeners who are better fits in a 3-4.

I wish his name was Kenny.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-bears-marc-trestman-guarded-spt-1118-20141117-story.html

There was a time not all that long ago when Marc Trestman's day-after-game news conferences carried the feel of a stimulating college lecture. Trestman would settle in at the dais in the Halas Hall media room and dive into the details of the previous day..

While eager reporters scribbled notes, Trestman would describe the intricacies of plays that worked and those that didn't. He would offer introspection into his team's mood. He would listen closely to questions, then pull back the curtain on his philosophies and decisions.

And that's why Monday's proceedings in Lake Forest felt so awkward. The 14-minute gathering was filled with odd pauses and evasive responses. After a 21-13 win over a division rival, no less.

Trestman seemed like a suspect in a police interrogation room without his lawyer. Harmless questions seemed to have him feeling trapped and uncomfortable.

As guard Kyle Long said, "It's nice to get some self-esteem in your little bubble. I felt like we were deflated there for a little while. And to be able to have that confidence moving into next week is awesome."

The NFL's thin line between deflation and relief, between agitation and confidence can seem like a flaming tightrope.

On Monday, Trestman seemed aware of that. An unsettled feeling lingered. Had this become the Bears' new normal?

I like Dupree in a 4-3 more than those other 2. Big fan of his upside, probably moreso than the other 2. But I think that's a little high for him. I'd definitely take Shaq Thompson over him.

#Bears announce they have signed former Titans KR/WR Marc Mariani to a 2-year contract and waived safety Ahmad Dixon.

another fringy returner type singed off the street.

Put him, and Chris Williams, and Alshon on the field at the same time, and you won't know which one is doing the end-around!

A playoff scenario with a 5-11 Atlanta making the playoffs :) please happen

https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffscenario?algorithm=custom&11=D4110405&12=55050055&13=11054511&14=01450055&15=44155005&16=10114410

And the most bizarre scenario I could come up with, with two 9-7 wild cards in the NFC and the first 4 out in the AFC being ten win teams (3 of 4 from the AFC North)

Not a fan of this pick. If you're going to draft a situational pass rusher have them have above average athletic ability. Dupree has been disappointing against the elite of the SEC.

Can you imagine going 5-11 and having to pick in the 20s in the draft? LOL

Can you imagine going 5-11 and still having a chance to host a playoff game? LOL.

Rooting for it to happen will be the highlight of the rest of my NFL season. Unfortunately it's so convoluted it has no chance. However a losing record from that division actually does have a shot so that's what I'm cheering for, along with at least one 10 win team from the AFC missing, preferably Ravens or Browns so I can laugh at my friends' misery.

The fact that its not as hard as I thought to pencil the Bears in at 10-6 and even 9-7 makes me feel a little better. OK they aren't really going to make the playoffs and they aren't going to go 6-0 or 5-1 the rest of the year...but if they did they would likely hold the tiebreaker over 3 of the 4 teams they look like they'd be up against (Detroit, Dallas and San Francisco) and would probably have the best conference record amongst the teams considering 3 of their losses came against the AFC.

Yea their extremely well positioned if they feel like going off on a run, but even discussing it is false hope and I won't allow myself to dwell on it too long. I'd really just prefer an embarrassing loss this week so I can focus on tanking rather than actually root for the playoffs only to finish 8-8 again.

In addition to my above post, if the Bears did run the table, that would give the Lions at least 5 losses on the season, not including their road games in GB and NE (we all know how we handled that scenario).

I want the Bears to badly lose on Sunday. The long term outlook would be great. Trestman would easily be gone leaving no shred of doubt that he's not a good fit. As well as a better pick. Then you hope with every embarrassing loss you Bears ownership will recognize that Philips is in no way the right man to run the football operations and selection of GMs.

Good news: I'm going to the game on Sunday and the Bears have lost the last 7 games I've attended, dating back to 2008
