Who is on the Score right now? Rozner? Whoever it is, he just had Bruce Levine on and Levine is saying his sources are saying no deal has been reached and negotiations are ongoing. Rozner said that even if the Cubs signed Maddon, Shields and Lester they'd still be 2-3 years away from competing. I then turned it off, or maybe threw the radio out the window, I'm not sure.

The Rozner curse: the Cubs must endure 2 seasons of losing for every year Aramis polluted the team with his laziness.

and yeah, Rozner is a [expletive] moron

Bruce Levine said on 670 am, "Maddon's agent told me at 4:30 today there is no deal, but they are negotiating." He also said if it doesn't get done by the end of the weekend, it might not get done because Maddon has a lot of other offers to consider.

It seemed to me like he was trying to help the agent diffuse the situation since it is game 7 night. By the end of the discussion, he finally admitted it will probably happen.

Ugh, Hub. The old [expletive] is miserable about everything at all times.

Hub pretty much discounted Levine but said he understands Levine is protecting his sources by saying there is no deal. Hub has been around this stuff long enough to know what Levine was trying to do.

Yeah, I should have clarified that the stuff with Levine was clearly just smoke and mirrors. I was more annoyed with the "they'll suck for 2-3 years" talk.

at first i thought you were saying he had rozner on (because you later actually referred to him as rozner)

somehow the fact that it's hub bothers me less. he's a harmless downer and doesn't nearly annoy me as much as arrogant ass rozner.

[expletive] Yes. The destruction of the outfield wall will remove the 100 year old goat piss stains and exorcise the demons from Wrigley and Maddon will be a God after leading the Cubs to 7 straight WS victories. Then they will win 7 more under Davey Martinez.

BOOK IT!

They both sound like sleepy-voiced asshacks who annoy me.

Cotillo is also confirming the move, if it matters. Clearly there's some effort to avoid the perception that this is "breaking" on Game 7 day, but it's obviously a fait acompli.

If nothing else, this should once and for all erase any doubts that Renteria was anything but a hire of last resort. He did exactly what he was hired to do, but I don't think anyone in the organization really thought he could be the guy to take the Cubs to the contenders level. I can certainly understand feeling bad for him, but the move itself is an obvious no-brainer.

The only thing it confirms is that they think Maddon is better. Since he's considered by most to be the best in the game, it might not say much at all about Renteria.

Now Hub is saying he doesn't want the Cubs signing any pitchers until they are ready to compete at "all nine positions."

WHY DO I KEEP TURNING THIS ON?!?

Yeah, and I don't think Maddon becoming available (something that was at least in large part a byproduct of Friedman leaving TB) was something that they would have counted on. I don't see this as indicative of a lack of faith in Renteria, just that they unexpectedly had the opportunity to get the very best guy for the job.

I really don't know why anyone listens to sports radio, it's 99.9% hot garbage.

It's a turing test?

I don't really agree with that second part. If Maddon didn't have an opt out and the Cubs played well in 2015 under Renteria, he probably would have been here for the long haul. I doubt Theo planned on hiring 3 managers before his first contract is up.

Sorry, no. If you thought Renteria was legitimately a good (not great, just good) manager and not just a placeholder, there's no way you'd break every rule of decorum there is (which is what they've done) and eat two years of salary in order to make a change, even to Maddon.
