Week 5: Bears (2-2) @ Panthers (2-2) Noon Fox/780

Posted

Might as well post this.

D'Angelo Williams is week to week with an injury and Jonathan Stewart was out last week, don't know about this week.

Funny thing is that the Bears have been good at stopping the run lately. Newton will be passing a lot which is probably not good.

Carolina opens up as 2.5 point favorites

Ahh what the hell. Bears 26 Panthers 24

Forte always destroys Carolina, and after seeing what the Steelers and Ravens RBs have done the past two weeks, I have little doubt he'll carve them up again.

Newton will get his yards but he'll gift one to Fuller late.

I think the Bears win this one as well. Defense is quite worrisome, but Cam is more similar to Kaepernick or Smith than he is to Aaron Rodgers. Unless Jay turns it over a bunch, I don't think the Bears lose.

The Chicago Bears' road game against the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 12 has been changed from a noon start to 3:25 p.m. on Fox, the NFL announced on Sunday.

The Week 6 game was swapped with New England at Buffalo, which has been moved into the noon slot.

Cam Newton isn't as crappy a thrower as Kaepernick or Geno Smith. If the Bears sit in a zone all day, he'll pick them apart just like Rodgers did. Hell, just like Manuel did (and nobody talks about) in the opener.

The offense should probably try to put together 2 good halves too.

Hopefully, the Bears get Slauson, McClellin, McManis, Ratliff, and Allen back to practice early this week and ready to play on Sunday. Hopefully, McManis gets some run at nickel in place of Frey. Hopefully, Marshall is able to practice so he knows the right routes to run. I still like this team when healthy, not that lack of health cost them yesterday. But depth was a strong suit this year, unlike year's past and it's been shot to hell all year.

For all the whining I did about Garza maybe getting his starting job back, De La Puente really had a crummy game against the Packers from what I saw.

Explain. Not that I don't think you know what you're talking about, but I was online and the feed isn't exactly HD clear. Run game finally got going (though I didn't see a ton of interior push. Cutler was protected pretty well. If I had to guess, I'd say DLP was no worse than OK. It looked like Kyle Long was excellent from what I could tell, though.

what was with the center/QB exchange issues?

Ah yes those. IDK. Looked like Cutler was pulling out too early to me. I'm blaming him because DLP didn't immediately go after either (or any, was there 2 or 3?) of the fumbles.

Maybe that was the case, but I think the default blame for any qb/c snafu is going to be on the new guy.

The snap issues mostly, but there was more to it than that, and now it's lost in my brain because the 2nd half of that game obviously is more memorable...for all the wrong reasons.

Couldn't tell on the first one (the 4th down run) but the second one was definitely on Cutler.

There were a couple of false starts that looked* like DLP and the rest of the team were off on. Hard to tell

yeah, something called against Long was more likely on DLP.

yeah, there was one play where pretty much the whole team moved, including forte in the backfield, so it was obvious that the center just didn't snap the ball when he was supposed to do it.

Cam isn't anywhere near Rodgers' level. I had to look up what he's doing this year. It was kind of surprising to see some of his #'s: pretty good completion percentage. 9 completed throws over 20 yards. Only 3 TD passes though, probably relying on the running game alot down by the goal line.

Still though, I'll have to see him beat us like a rag doll like Rodgers did before I believe it. HUGE knock on wood.

Carolina was maybe the worst defense in the league when Forte had his monster game against them in 2011. In 2010 their run defense was bad also.

In 2012 he was good enough but I wouldn't call it destruction.

They are a much different team than they were in 2010-11.

With injuries to DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, Panthers' new starting RB is Darrin Reaves.

SECRET WEAPON, THE PLAN IS FALLING INTO PLACE

Seriously, we're going to get massacred
