I was curious as to the betting odds for the game and was surprised that the Cubs were only +260 on Sportsbook. Then I scrolled down and saw that only one other team was more than +175 (Philly +220) so I guess +260 is a pretty big line for baseball. I've never looked at baseball lines all that much before so I didn't know what to expect.

If the Cubs win this game, anyone who bets on baseball should just light themselves on fire.

The only fun time to bet on baseball is to bet on the big underdog.

True. But it also proves that betting on baseball (or hockey) is pretty much a guaranteed poor ending if done consistently. At least you have a (small) chance in basketball and football.

#Cubs lineup today: Alcantara CF, Baez 2B, Rizzo 1B, Soler RF, Castillo C, Olt 3B, Valaika SS, Lake LF, Jackson P

No Coughlan or Valbuena, both lefties, against Kershaw.

Why in the world is Valaika at SS and Baez at 2B, didn't Baez already get a punishment shortened at AAA when they realized that Valaika was completely worthless there?

I thought it was worth checking the standings to see if there's a justification for objectively making the Cubs' defense worse for a game, and FWIW, we're one game ahead of Houston and two ahead of the Red Sox right now.

Why not? Baez will be the second baseman come 2015, so Renteria probably felt like moving him back over there for a game.

we're already starting [expletive] jaxon. this is like cutting a guy's leg off and waiting for him to bleed out, then getting impatient and cutting off his pinky too. just let the process work.

Because Valaika is about as useful at SS as a festivus pole. I mean, at least bring Alcantara into the infield if you're that set on not playing Valbuena or Watkins.

But Alcantara is also learning a new position.

It's a single game. Also, Sharma's indicated that Baez is going right back to shortstop afterwards, so it's still more about Valaika than it is player development.
