I call Roethlisberger “building #7″ because theres absolutely NO chance that he can be brought down under natural forces, no offense.

At least tonight we can concentrate on whats important- hardhitting thursday night football matchups. Everyones talking about how soft the league is on sexual assault but people forget that Goodell threw the hammer down on Big Ben and suspended him 8 games for multiple rape allegations and dropped it to 4 games because Rothlisberger went a month with out raping anyone. Commissioner Goodell has been consistent with his zero-tolerence policy for violence against women that take place during a suspenson for a second offense of violence towards women.

Carolina's schedule gets absolutely brutal in October, so this Lions game is a big one. Should be a fun matchup with Cam vs Stafford and Stafford vs Panthers defense.

Should we spin off the Ray Rice/Goodell discussion into its own thread?

Maybe just make Week 1 the default Ray Rice/Goodell thread?

This is my vote. I mean people can't still care about actual week one stuff can they.

What are the thoughts on Tennessee this year? They should be 2-0 after this week, granted they may have played 2 of the 5-7 worst teams at the end of the year to start the season, but I think they have a legit chance to win their division if Locker stays healthy.

Uh didn't you read my bold predictions? Playoffs. Wildcard team. Kind of a limb, but I think 13/16 of the AFC kinda sucks.

Good week of games that nobody is talking about.

Pit/Bal- division matchup, probably one of the 2 most physical rivalries in the NFL.

Car/Det- 2013 playoff team vs. a hopeful team that can get there with discipline

Mia/Buf- teams pulled off the 2 biggest Week 1 upsets

NE/Min- contender upset week 1 vs. a dominant Week 1 winner. Brady v. Cassel

Cin/Atl- 2013 playoff team vs. 2012 HFA team who pulled off a big win last week

TB/STL- were trendy playoff picks before Bradford went down

SEA/SD- 2013 playoff teams

DEN/KC- 2 best teams thru first 10 weeks of 2013, division rival

SF/CHI- big time contender vs. a lot of people's sleeper

IND/PHI- 2013 playoff teams

uhhh

These two teams really dont like each other ICYMI. I mean it, theirs no love lossed between these two towns folks. You can throw out the record books when youve got Pittsburg and Baltimore getting together to duke it out. Two of the hardest hitting teams going at it again this is exactly what the NFL needs right now IMO.

Let's say the Pats, Denver and Indy will win their divisions. TN to me is in that secondary group of mediocre AFC teams that could easily make a Wild Card. They're in a grouping with the non-division winner of Pitt, Baltimore and Cincy, then Miami and SD.

San Diego took a big hit with the loss of Hardwick. Immobile QB and a big step down on the offensive line.

As a Titan fan, I'm cautiously optimistic. The defense looked really good against KC, but that Chief offense is pretty awful outside of Charles and Reid was determined not to give him the football. I think the type of players on D suits a 3-4 better than a 4-3 and they've made some nice moves to bring in more talent (really liked the Groves addition).

Offensively, there's an undeniable amount of talent throughout the team. Veterans like Nate Washington and Delanie Walker mix well with the young guys. Kendall Wright is a great slot receiver with room for improvement and I really think this could be a breakout year for Justin Hunter - he has the potential to be an elite deep threat WR and maybe an elite all around one. The running game will be mediocre until Sankey is ready to take over full time, which I'm hoping is soon because Shonn Greene isn't good.

My biggest concern right now is Jake Locker and not just because of his health. Throughout the preseason and Sunday, Locker has been throwing high and his accuracy (while admittedly not borne out in the stats) has been shaky. I'm really afraid he's going to get a WR hurt or toss some INTs that he shouldn't with as often as he's throwing high. The injury issues just compound my concerns. Locker will need to really make a good argument to convince me that I'm wrong about Mettenberger being the more likely franchise QB on the roster.

I like raw's confidence in the Titans, but playoffs this year might be a tad bold - though I wouldn't rule it out either. I think next year could be a really nice year if this coaching staff can develop these young guys and then the trajectory would be straight up.

and only targeting one side of the field....there is a prop bet on times Sherman is targeted. Set at 4. Over/Under.

Also, the total on the game seems like a good bet. Total is at 44. Seeing as the Hawks pretty easily put up 36 on a good packers team, seems like a pretty reasonable over.

Man I hate that Qualcomm is such a dump and tickets are going for over $200 on the low end. Better experience at home. Although, the Chargers are worried that there will be too many seahawks fans there. THey sent an advisory to wear white to support the team.

just saw the Upshaw hit on Roethlisberger that got flagged. It was a clean hit, right to his chest......have no idea what they're penalizing anymore

Neither do the refs. Hochule threw the flag and definitely couldn't see the actual hit.

Didn't he lead with his helmet into the upper half of the QB? I thought leading with the helmet above the waste is how they defined roughing the passer, among other things.

ETA: Nevermind. I looked it up. Only references hitting in the head, not above the waste.

They've been making it up as they go along, for several years now. I'm not sure who to blame: incompetent refs, or incomprehensible rules, or what.

Probably a little of both. But the result is you see flags and just cringe -- then many times you see the replay and it's just stupid. And I'll say that about calls that go in the Bears favor, all day long.

Plus it makes the games longer and takes the wind out of exciting parts. We can all just go on & on. Worst drag on football in a generation.

Not that they're the ultimate authorities or anything, but both Golic and Cris Carter were completely blasting the call this morning. I couldn't believe the call when I saw it live. That was an absolutely perfectly executed tackle where the guy saw what he was going to hit and just ran through the tackle.

Week 2 is so fun.

Steelers went from a sure playoff spot and a good shot at the division to 6-10, firing LeBeau and a serious need to get a true stud draft pick in the top 10.

Fans early in the season are so terrible.

From behind Roethlisberger, it probably appeared to the official that he hit him in the head, because he was very close and once he drove into him, the natural progression after initial contact is for the head to push forward and down where it then looks like helmet is on helmet.

Of course, the glaring issue with this whole entire discussion is that if the ref was making the call from behind Roethlisberger, then he wasn't in the position to be making the call in the first place.
